(20,500 capacities). The Canadian Tire Centre was officially opened to the public in 1996. The Ottawa senators was founded and established by the Ottawa real estate
developer Bruce Firestone. The current Ottawa senators has been valued by the Forbes magazine at $220 million and owned by Eugene Melnyk. Tagged as the second
team in the history of the NHL to use the name Ottawa Senators, the original team that used the name was in 1883 and won a stunning 11 Stanley Cups. The current
Ottawa Senators started playing in the NHL in the 1992-93 season. Although the Ottawa Senators have yet to win a Stanley Cup, its NHL membership had been
considered a success by qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs in twelve of the past fourteen seasons, four division titles, the Presidents' Trophy in 2003 and appeared
in the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals. The Ottawa Senators are well-loved by its fans and have one of the highest attendance per game in the NHL.
The Ottawa Senators 2013 Season Preview
The Ottawa Senators will be playing their 22nd season in the 2013-2014 National Hockey League since they were founded on December 16, 1991. This year's NHL
season is exciting for the Ottawa Senators since they will be playing in a new NHL division alongside the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens,
Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs. The current NHL season is exciting since the division of the Senators has eight teams
while the other divisions only have seven teams. The battle for the Stanley Cup playoffs will be more heated and exciting this year. The Senators hoped for a better
performance this year with their much improved roster.
Ottawa Senators Rivals
Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings
Senators vs.Canadiens
While these two NHL teams had been close geographically for years, their rivalry had not been ignited until as of late. The rivalry between these two teams started in the
2013 playoffs when Senator's Eric Gryba hit Canadiens forward Lars Eller that resulted in Eller sustaining a concussion and Gryba getting suspended for 2 games
based on result of the deadly hit. It was this incident that made the rivalry between these two NHL teams more intense. NHL experts said whenever these two teams
meet expect a heated and physical confrontation due to their hatred towards each other in past games.
Senators vs. Red Wings
Despite the fact that Senators and Red Wings had played each other 25 times in 21 years, the two had not been rivals for all those years. However, everything changed
on July 5, 2013 when former Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson decided to leave the team and sign with the Red Wings. Aside from leaving the Senators, the long-time
captain of the team also said that his new team has a better chance of winning the Stanley Cup this season. With that statement, the Senators made a vow to battle
the Red Wings toe to toe in their matches. The Red Wings can thank Alfredsson for adding some fuel to the fire and getting Senators amped for every game. While the
Senators become more seasoned and experienced in Playoffs, expect that when they meet the Red Wings on the ice for there to be a fiery matchup between them.
