ViChem LPR-50
Oil-Based Mud Performance Enhancer
2. Cost Effective Performance Enhancer • Biodegradable
ViChem LPR-50
ViChem LPR-50 is an ester-based additive that significantly improves rate of penetration (ROP), reduces pump pressures, and
increases electrical stability for oil-based mud (OBM) operations, while providing a cost-effective solution for achieving higher
lubricity. High-performance and low toxicity ratings make it ideally suited to drilling in environmentally sensitive areas.
Specially formulated for Emulsion-based mud systems (EBM), ViChem LPR-50 offers multiple advantages over other
lubricants, including easy mixing, a stable viscosity index, improved rheology and filtration rates, and enhanced lubricity.
ViChem LPR-50 outperforms other additives in thermal, oxidative, and hydrolytic stability.
ViChem LPR-50 as 2-3% of total mix delivers significant advantages
Lowers friction coefficients by up to 40% Increases weight on the bit
Reduces torque by up to 50% Increases energy efficiency
Improves ROP up to 49% Lowers HTHP filtrate
Stabilizes and lowers rheology Eases casing runs
Reduces pump pressures Increases hole stability

Lower CoF improves ROP, decreases torque and drag, and reduces
wear and tear on rig components. ViChem LPR-50 is well suited to
drilling high-angle and horizontal wells.
► Specific Gravity: 1.03 - 1.05
► Appearance/Color: Dark brown viscous liquid,
pine odor
► Temperature Stability: Up to 16 hrs @ 300˚ F
► Flash Point: 500˚ F / 260˚ C
► MSDS compliant
ViChem LPR-50 is recommended for use in EBMs to help
reduce pump pressures by controlling rheologies or
whenever increased ROP is desired. Recommended uses
include running 20-50 bbl sweeps or by adding 2-3%
ViChem LPR-50 by volume.

ViChem LPR-50’s proven ability to increase ROP not only helps drillers save tens-of-thousands-of-dollars daily in rig-related costs, but also reduces the need
for OBM support products. In this example, rigs using ViChem LPR-50 achieved significant cost savings through faster ROP and a significant reduction in
emulsifier use.

Field and laboratory data were collected during three field trials of ViChem LPR-50. Fifty bbl sweeps were run containing 3.0% by volume ViChem LPR-50.
Data were collected before and after treatment. Slugging pit samples were collected before and after addition of LPR-50.
Overall, the use of ViChem LPR-50 resulted in increased ROP, stable rheology, and lower mud costs.
The rheology-stabilizing effects of ViChem LPR-50 also reduced the volume of support products needed to control elevated HTHP filtrate typically associated
with higher temperatures as OBM ages.
