The Indian stock markets rose nearly 1% after the Reserve Bank of India increased interest rates by less than expected. The benchmark BSE Sensex index rose 0.86% and the NSE Nifty index rose 0.94% after the RBI increased repo and reverse repo rates by 25 basis points each, which was lower than the 50 basis point increase many analysts expected. Broader markets also saw buying as analysts said the markets reacted positively because the interest rate hike was not as high as anticipated.
