Objective: To further develop my career in the outdoor industry allowing me to use my
practical knowledge of the natural environment, improve my leadership qualities and enjoy
working in a people focused role.
Career Objectives and Work Experience: After securing my tertiary qualification I wasted no
time getting into the outdoor sector. Over the last few years I have worked in an amazing
industry, experiencing hands on practical jobs and learning many vital lessons. On top of my
formal training I have received on the job training. I have built a base combining jobs in and
around Outdoor Education plus Travel and Tourism. I am always looking to improve
professionally, to bring a great attitude to what I do and am motivated in up skilling. Below is
a summary of my job types.

Climbing, Mountain Biking, Problem Solving Activities, Kayaking, Canoeing, Raft Building, Bush
Navigation, Bush Skills, Wilderness Skills, Environmental Studies, Adventure Based Learning Games,
Camping, Orienteering, Beach Games. Day to day equipment care, maintenance and logging information.
These roles have come from my expedition and centre-based work catering for school camps and
corporate events.
 At Total Adventures I had students from a Tertiary College studying Outdoor Education view me for a
week allowing me an opportunity to pass on my knowledge in a range of activities.
 With Learn Active I was Instructing Bush Navigation for low and high level disabled people. Skills in
location awareness, maps, compasses and flora and fauna identification.
 In my time at OENZ I worked on rock climbing trips, navigation skills in the outdoors and problem solving
activities for senior school students. It gave me experiences working on eight school camps. There were
many responsibilities such as overall running of activities, medical first response, general handyman and
making safety calls.
 One of my roles at Activity Hanmer put me in charge of Hazard identification. I had to manage risk
assessment and use the channels of reporting laid out in the standard operating procedures.

 I worked as a tourism guide working nationwide in New Zealand. I provided commentary, organized
accommodation and activities and I was always ensuring that my passengers were having an enjoyable
time. Transport was in large buses so this was great to add to my driving skills. I was the go to man for any
concerns at all whilst on trip. Being able to manage difficult people and excellent time management were a
must. This role required excellent communication, collaboration, creativity, leadership and directional
skills.
OTHER SELECTED WORK EXPERIENCE
180 Degrees Trust Outdoor Activity Instructor/ Youth Coordinator Christchurch 2015
 As an Instructor I organized and ran short and long intensive trips in the South Island Back Country for
youth at risk involved with Trust 180 Degrees Alternative Education School. On camps I instructed
students in Bush Navigation, Wilderness Skills, Mountain Biking, Rock climbing, Flora and Fauna
Identification.
 The other side of my job as a Youth Coordinator involved working with at risk youth who were involved
with the Youth Court for many reasons. This involved collaborating with Youth Court and Social Workers
and attending weekly court hearings for my mentees. I managed several mentees and worked with them
to reduce offending, engage them in important areas of life, teach life skills, and help writing a C.V, verbal
discussions, creating positivity, stress reduction, planning and goal setting as well as bonding through a
range of outdoor activities to gain interest.
World Challenge Expedition Assistant Vietnam and Cambodia 2014
 World Challenge is a company that focuses on one-month school expeditions to developing nations around
the world. Collaboration with operators and ensuring student safety was essential. Confirming bookings,
money, trip admin, activities, budget were all in check. I kept students motivated guiding them through a
different environment and was looking to always include learning, fun and new experiences.
Poseidon Divers Dive Master Trainee Dahab, Sinai Peninsula Egypt 2011
 Assisted instructors on Open Water Scuba Diving and Discover Scuba Diving courses.
 Gained my Dive Master’s Qualification.
