11. Career Highlights:
Since beginning his walking career in 1987, Jack Bray has established himself as an
outstanding athlete, coach and promoter of racewalking. He has won more than 50
WAVA, USATF and other championships and medalled in 18 more. He holds nine
national age group records as well as U.S. and world single age records. He founded the
Marin Racewalkers in 1992, which grew to 140 members and was responsible for starting
two other Northern California Clubs in the Pacific Association of USATF. He co-
directed the Marin Racewalkers with his wife Sue from 1992 until 2009 and acted as
head coach for the club and its members. He also taught nearly 1000 other walkers at
three Northern California junior colleges from 1989-2009.
He has led club teams and athletes that he coached to national and international events
since 1993. These teams and athletes won more than 60 medals (25 gold, 20 silver, 17
bronze) at the 5000m track distance at USATF National Masters Outdoor Championships
in 1993-1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2003 and 12 medals at WAVA Games in the same
event (1 gold, 7 silver, 4 bronze) in 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001. .
2. While heading the Marin Racewalkers, he conducted regular club training sessions and
hosted an annual clinic with invited international class coaches and athletes. He helped
organize the Northern California Racewalking Grand Prix in 1998 that had nearly 100
participants. He was interviewed frequently by local media about the club and his
personal accomplishments such as leading a contingent of athletes to WAVA Games in
Gateshead, England and Brisbane, Australia.
