Methods for the assessment of PA and sport are numerous, but given the complex nature, none of the currently available methods can assess all PA dimensions. Within the project “EUPASMOS Plus”, our aims were to develop PALs, sports participation, sedentary behavior, and sleeping time monitoring framework in the European region. The outcomes of the project will support the Member States, the European Commission, the WHO, and other relevant international sports organizations in the design, promotion, implementation, and monitoring of effective, evidence-based HEPA and sport strategies across the European region including the Republic of North Macedonia.

3. Project Aim
•To implement a harmonized Monitoring System for Physical Activity, Sport
participation and sedentary behaviour through the development of an integrated and
shared methodological process that will provide comparable, valid and reliable
physical activity and sport participation data across European member states.
•The outcomes of the project will support Member States, WHO, EC, and other
relevant organizations in the design, promotion, implementation and surveillance of
effective and evidence-based HEPA and Sport policies and strategies across European
region and governance levels.
4. EUPASMOS PLUS Objectives - 1
I. To establish a monitoring scientific framework for assessing sedentary
behavior patterns, physical activity levels and sport participation in the
European population: adults, seniors, pregnant women and people
with disabilities.
II. To compare commonly used questionnaires for physical activity
surveillance with each other and with objective accelerometer data in
a validation study that will use representative samples from European
partner countries.
5. EUPASMOS PLUS Objectives - 2
III. To analyze and compare sedentary behavior patterns, physical activity levels
and prevalence of sport participation across European MS based on the results
obtained with the validation study;
IV.To develop a toolkit to build and reinforce capacity to monitor, analyze, and
compare sedentary behavior patterns, physical activity and sport participation
prevalence data;
V. To support the development of the physical activity section of the WHO
Health Gateway Database, aligning it with the European HEPA monitoring
framework.
6. EUPASMOS PLUS Objectives - 3
- To increase the extension ofthe database , to expand the EUPASMOS study, to include
new project partners - European countries, in order to strengthen and reinforce its aim
in creating an European wide, integrated framework to monitor physical activity levels,
sport participation and sedentary behaviors.
- To scale up the EUPASMOS study to vulnerable groups extending sample (pregnant
women, elderly and people with disabilities).
- Include body composition and cardiorespiratory fitness markers VO2 max - ml-1
kg-1 min-1.
