Rashmi mala draws visual references from botanical illustrations, historical texts, and individual artists. She sources references from her travels, surroundings, and botanical journals. Rashmi uses traditional pigment-based mediums on organic surfaces like vellum to record flowers and plants in detail. During lockdown, she noticed and documented more animal sightings on roads, observing how the urban environment opened up to reveal a usually hidden natural world. She makes handmade paper from leaves native to Kashmir to preserve plants and the world around her.
