  5. 5. “Energy-efficient buildings” PPP initiative Challenges• The Construction industry accounts for 10% of EU’s GDP and gives jobs to 32 million people• Buildings represent 40% of energy use and 33% of Green House Gas emissions• Energy use to be reduced by 20% by 2020• The present rate of construction of new buildings is below 2% Renovation of existing buildings is key! « Business as usual » is not an option!
