1. WHAT INFLUENCES MIGHT IMPACT CHANGE?
CHANGE MANAGEMENT
The poster highlights the distinct similarities and differences in the two academic
libraries located in the United States and Philippines.
The faculty and staff worked in the Mary & John Gray Library
building throughout the pandemic in individual offices. The
pandemic influenced change in library services and staffing.
The reference desk closed and services moved online. The
circulation desk became the main service point. The
reference services expanded to include 24/7 chat and email
from an end user perspective. We consolidated local and
global chat, email, and text services into Springshare to
reduce the number of applications the staff used. COVID-19
protocols implemented included plastic shields at circulation
desk and the spacing group and computer laboratory
seating.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE?
A global incident or new pandemic that
impacts enrollment.
Both libraries moved online during the pandemic.
Technology during the pandemic provides support to
continue library services.
Our meeting highlighted common similarities in changing
management, library services, and spaces. The
conversation pointed to how changes impacted library
employees, services, supervision, and renovations. The
differences were mainly in the services and databases
we provided to our universities.

The library refocused on developing our
online reference services. We develop our
library webpage, social media accounts, and
mySOUL Virtual Library in our Learning
Management System. The work from Home
scheme was adopted, and all librarians and
staff just communicated through messenger

WHAT CHANGES OCCURRED?
The mindset of the librarians in adopting the use
of technology and the changing roles of the
librarians not only during the pandemic.
The Mary & John Gray Library in 2021 started a
renovation to modernize the 1970’s building. The
redesign will increase the number of academic
support services, the ability to integrate
technology and require an increase in mobile and
virtual services.
The university has developed a modernization plan for
the library in collaboration with the College of
Computer Studies entitled."Reinventing Silliman
University Library System for the 21st Century: A
Modern Transformation of Services."
