Proven IBM end-to-end convergence
testing delivering easy interoperability
throughout network1
Many clients today have Ethernet and Fibre Channel connectivity from
their servers to their LAN and SAN networks and are seeking ways to
reduce the cost and complexity of these environments by leveraging the
capabilities of converged Ethernet and Fibre Channel/Fibre Channel
over Ethernet (FCoE) switching. The G8264CS offers the benefits of
a converged infrastructure today, while providing flexibility for future
growth and expansion. This switch is ideal for clients looking to connect
via their existing SAN infrastructure, as well as, clients wanting native
Fibre Channel connectivity, in addition to support for protocols like
Ethernet, FCoE and iSCSI.
Simplify deployment and lower TCO
The IBM® RackSwitch™ G8264CS simplifies deployment with its
innovative IBM Omni Port technology. Omni Ports give clients the
flexibility to choose 10 Gb Ethernet, 4/8 Gb Fibre Channel or both
for upstream connections and in FC mode, Omni Ports provide conve-
nient access to FC storage. G8264CS’s Omni Port technology helps
consolidate enterprise storage, networking, data, and management onto
a simple to manage single fabric and reduces costs associated with energy
and cooling, management and maintenance, and capital costs.
Improve performance and connectivity
The G8264CS is an enterprise-class and full-featured data center
switch which offers high bandwidth performance with thirty six 1/10 Gb
SFP+ connections, twelve Omni Ports that can be used for 10 Gb
SFP+ connections, 4/8 Gb Fibre Channel connections or both, plus
four 40 Gb QSFP+ connections. This switch delivers full line rate perfor-
mance on Ethernet ports, making it an optimal choice for managing
dynamic workloads across the network and provides a rich Layer 2 and
Layer 3 feature set that is ideal for many of today’s data centers.
IBM enables interoperability provided by end-to-end FCoE testing with
the latest System x® servers, IBM RackSwitch G8264CS, IBM System
Storage SAN b-type and Brocade or Cisco SAN switches connecting to
IBM Storage.¹
Optimize network virtualization
With the majority of IT organizations implementing virtualization,
there has been an increased need to reduce the cost and complexity of
their environments. IBM Virtual Fabric reduces cost, complexity while
increasing performance and provides higher availability and security with
isolation between vNIC’s by leveraging the innovative IBM Networking
OS design. IBM VMready® is an open standards virtualization solution
based on IEEE 802.1Qbg Edge Virtual Bridging which makes the net-
work VM aware.² VMready works with all major hyper-visors. For clients
using VMware, our Distributed Virtual Switch 5000 V (sold separately)
enables network administrators to simplify virtual switch management
by having a consistent virtual and physical networking environment.²
