UOW’s Aged Dementia Health Education & Research (ADHERe) team travelled to Taipei, Taiwan for the 11th annual International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics Asia Pacific Congress (IAGG) from the 21st-27th of October. The team, consisting of 9 members, delivered a range of presentations at the Congress, including one international symposium with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan and Taipei Medical University, four oral papers and three poster.

What have we achieved?

The purpose of this section is to present a
3 years achievement between UOW &
TMU and to create and implement a new
vision for future cooperation.
Background and context
Our collaboration with Taiwan Taipei
Medical University was initiated in 2016 and
since that time meaningful partnerships
have been established (MOUs signed in
2016). This collaboration has multi-
components: research, student and
academic exchanges and a joint PhD,
Master degree. We achieved these
outcomes with funding from a 2017/2019
UIC grant, two mobility grants, a TMU
affiliated hospital grant, recruiting a TMU
Master’s graduate to become a UOW PhD
candidate and in-kind support, including
staff time to work on joint projects. In 2019,
we establish the Taiwanese Australian
Innovation within Ageing Network
(TAIwAN) and continue extend these
international collaborations.

In order to a better understanding the others

Background and context
Our collaboration with Taiwan Alzheimer Disease
Association (TADA) was initiated in 2016 and since
that time dementia and driving project has been
delivered (MOUs signed in 2017). The TADA is a
member of Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI).
An association with ADI will provide an invaluable
international endorsement of UOW dementia
research outputs. TADA provides UOW with access
to consumers and family carers of individuals living
with a dementia through Integrated dementia care
centres (IDCCs). TADA has 700+ members
(consumers, family carers and transdisciplinary
professionals) and is a highly regarded member of
the ADI.

2019 Australia and Taiwan Nursing Exchange
Seminar: UOW colleagues presented to
Department of Nursing and Health Care,
Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan with the
following topics.

introduction (NP, CNC,CNE,NE)
ii. Gerontology nursing competencies in
Australia
The main purpose of this seminar is to
understand the nursing workforce
professions in the two countries and to
discussion future nursing research
cooperation. Dr Rita Chang is appointed as
consultant of Nursing Home Accreditation
and Nursing policy for the Department of
Nursing and Health Care, Ministry of Health
and Welfare since 2019.
