1. Services Oriented Architecture Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) has become the de-facto approach to application development and delivery, spanning both commercial software and in-house development. As SOA continues to sweep through the Enterprise Portfolio, it provides both opportunities and challenges for IT, in areas including Business Process Management (BPM), Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), Services Provisioning and Governance, Complex Event Processing (CEP), and Cloud Computing. The LiquidHub Approach LiquidHub’s SOA services produce an action plan of clearly-defined steps designed to lay the groundwork for an affordable set of enablement of planned and existing services. The plan can also be used to support the deployment of critical business-driven projects, as well as enable adoption of key technology trends including Cloud / XaaS (Everything as a Service), Mobile and Location-based Computing.
8. Technical and Process Governance (including team structure, standard operating procedures, escalation, and change managementA major healthcare insurer was seeking to provide enhanced capabilities by leveraging it’s legacy system assets more effectively for data and transactional access. Their core processing system’s underlying architecture imposed severe limitations on the company’s ability to function effectively and to respond to business needs quickly. These limitations included the inability to easily access data, barriers to extensibility, and a high reliance on legacy technology and skills. Further, the company’s Increased need for cross-platform data integration and access to subscribers and other external entities were nearly impossible to meet with the current application set. LiquidHub led and facilitated a project which included an SOA middleware Proof of Concept and solution selection. The goal was to select a proper SOA enabling solution and prove that it could enhance the capabilities of the legacy system assets via application “wrapping” with services, also providing a platform for all future system integration needs. The project resulted in risk mitigation by raising understanding of the true effort in adopting SOA, identifying value drivers, and a creating a clear technical vision and the pragmatic steps required to achieve it.
