Hockey NS: Changes to Female Hockey Structure
1. The following is an overview of recommendation that HNSFC in
conjunction with the Structural Review Committee (SRC) put
forward to the Hockey Nova Scotia Board for the up coming
2015/2016 season.
The objective in making these changes to the female game are to
improve the current administrative structure, in conjunction with
the MHA’s on how we get our female players on the ice at the
start of the season.
2. Central Registration Process
As a result of meetings with the grass roots stakeholders one
thing that was unanimous was an online Central Registration
Process for female player in the Province. HNS in cooperation
with Hockey Canada has set up a new online Central Registry.
3. Mike Field and staff from the HNS office, have been in contact
with Hockey Canada setting up the online structure.
Online Registration will begin June 15th. HNS will be putting
together a communication piece through our Website, League
websites and social media to ensure that the message is
disseminated throughout female hockey circles.
Once each zone has set up their Executive Committee and have
identified their Registrar, HNS will then supply any training required to
ensure that there is a comfort level with the new process.
4. It will divide female hockey players into (6) six zones across
the Province:
Halifax
Dartmouth
Western
Nova
Fundy/Highland
Cape Breton
5. The Central Registry will be accessible through the Hockey Nova
Scotia website.
6. To register, simply drag your mouse over the Female Hockey
tab on the Hockey Nova Scotia website and click on Registration
(Central Registry).
7. You will be directed to the Central Registry page where you will
be instructed to select your Female Hockey zone.
8. Once you have selected your zone, you will be connected to
Hockey Canada’s online registration system.
Hockey Canada’s online registration system is free to set up.
It’s widely used by Minor Hockey Associations both across Nova
Scotia and across Canada.
9. You will be instructed to either Sign In or Create an Account (which only
takes about a minute).
When an account has been created, you will be directed to the page
pictured below: your Shopping Cart.
To register a player, just click Register a Participant.
10. You will then be asked to fill out some basic information which
will be used to create a profile for your child.
The player’s date of birth will automatically determine whether
the player will be able to register at the Atom, Peewee, Bantam or
Midget level.
11. After you click Register, you will be directed here to compete the final
form of your child’s information.
You will also select the level that they would like to play.
AA = provincial, A = conference, C = recreation/community
An option for AA and A players to select C-level hockey will also exist.
12. An advantage to using the Hockey Canada online registration system is that
the set-up is very user-friendly.
That means Female Council will be able to work with each Female Hockey
Zone to build an online registration system to best serve their needs. For
example, we can create specific requirements on the registration page of
each individual zone to minimize the work on their end (ie: we can accept
payments).
To alleviate some of the growing pains, we will hold a training session for all
of the new registrars to help them get familiar with the new system.
We will also create an instructional video to guide new participants through
the registration process.
13. Administrative Process
For the coming season HNSFC and the SRC are recommending
setting up 6 executive committees one for each zone that will be
responsible for the administration of getting the coaches,
players and teams on the ice this fall.
Make up to the Executive Committee (Mandatory Positions)
Chair
Vice Chair
Registrar
Secretary/Treasurer
Coach coordinator
Member at Large (as needed)
14. Committee Guidelines
Each executive committee will include one (1) voting
representative from each MHA zone
It is expected that starting out these will be the Female
Coordinator from each MHA.
An executive committee can have additional members, but they
are non-voting'
Only one (1) vote per MHA
The Chair only votes in the case of a tie
15. The Hockey Nova Scotia Regulations will be updated to reflect
the Authority of these new Executive Committees as it pertains
to the governance of female hockey players in the Province.
These Executive Committees will be under the guidance of
HNSFC.
The expectation is to have these executive committees set up in
each zone by July 1st 2015
