Reflecting on English Class 111 Essay
Reflecting on English 111 My experience into English 111 not only left me anxious, it became a selfā€“revelation. My learning capabilities were
challenged because writing did not come natural and the possibility of becoming a prominent writer were going to take a lot of time, effort and hard
work. In spite of not knowing what to expect, I entered into this new semester pumped up carrying an "I can do this" attitude and feeling confident.
Oh boy was I scared into complete and utter silence on my first encounter with my new instructor. The demands on us, as a student, seemed to be
exceedingly high leaving no room for mistakes. On the contrary, being that this was all pretty much new for me, I began to panic. Meanwhile as I tried

Then I began writing like never before, so to get an understanding on the inside of me that I too could do this. Attend college at my age and learn to
write. I have to admit that when I received a grade of B, on my paper; I was thrilled not to mention exhausted. Needless to say, I was not looking
forward to writing any more essays because there was so much work involved in receiving a passing grade. Then all of a sudden I was faced with
the next English 111 assignment, which definitely was not going to be any easier. As in my promise to myself, I remained faithful not only to the
commitment of college but to the fact that I still believe I was worth every effort that it was going to take to receive a passing grade of confidence
which I so desired. After our first essay, we immediately began our second, "oh my God", were my exact words that I remembered myself saying, as
I took a deep breathe. In fact, during all of this mind boggling confusion going on in my head, I felt that this next essay was going to be more
complicated. Which immediately lead me to recall "What is Academic Writing Myth #4" when Irvin suggested that "Some got it; I don'tā€“ the genius
fallacy" (5). Myth #4 suggests that when we begin to think of our writing flaws, we tend to blame genetics. We offer up explanations that it's out of our

Reflection On English Course
After taking the University English course for a semester, I realize the course content is different from my anticipation but it is much more useful than
what I expected. The aspects that I would like to improve in this course including my speaking, reading and writing skills. As the course mainly focus
on the writing part, I find it really helpful and practical for my subsequent studies. Especially for the sentence structures part, which is also the main
improvement I would like get from this course, it really inspires me a lot. I hoped I could master the use of different sentence structures because my
previous writings were limited in some simple and dull structures, making my writing mediocre. After participating in this course, I really gain a lot.
Many unclear concepts in sentence patterns that I have had since my secondary school are cleared now. For instance, in making some complex
sentences, I always make grammatical mistakes and use erroneous subjects but do not know why they are wrongly used. The...show more content...
For example, I intended to answer and ask questions frequently in the lessons. However, when I evaluate my performance in this semester, I
discover I was diligent in the first few lessons but was not absorbed in the subsequent lessons due to the heavy workload of other subjects. I will
try my best not to be a deadline fighter in next semester so that I can enjoy and focus on the lessons. Apart from improving my English through this
course, I planned to do some actions in my daily lives in order to achieve my English goals. For example, I decided to read more English books and
newspapers. It was difficult for me to read the whole books so I changed to watch English films and videos with English subtitles. Also, I read BBC
News in the website twice a week. I found my English become better as I knew more vocabularies and my reading speed became

In my previous English courses, I had no knowledge of writing an essay, or even a proper sentence. Writing did not seem like anything important
in my life, or that it would affect me anyway in the future. I had despised my own writing and loathed having to write essays for any of my classes.
When I had enrolled in Composition I, I had no idea what I was going to do to pass. However, in class, we had done collaborative work, which had
helped me progress myself. Collaborative work had consisted of multiple students helping each other, sharing ideas, and peerā€“reviews. This was a
change of pace for me since I had not done that before. In previous classes, I had done individual work, which was solely myself correcting and
working on my work. Between collaborative work and individual work, I enjoyed working with partners and sharing each other's experiences to
benefit ourselves. Over this class I have developed my writing skills, learned from my previous mistakes, and understood the writing process.
To begin with, before taking this class I would have grammar errors, low level word choices, sentence fragments, contractions, and no sentence
variety. The grammar in my essays would be something that I had never worked on or learned from. My word choices were that of a middle schooler
and would sound childish at times. I had never taken the time to learn about the sentence variety and combinations that were possible. My knowledge
of sentence variety was limited to only compound and

Before entering English 1301, I had my doubts about what this class was going to consist of. Considering this is a college level English class, and a
subject I struggled in, my worries were not at ease. Throughout the year, my understanding and comprehension of the writing process, as well as how to
write different varieties of writing, have strengthened. After partaking in this course, I am confident I have met the student learning outcomes. After
completing my first college level English class, I would be expected to meet four student learning outcomes. One of those being I could use rhetorical
devices to strengthen my essays. Coming into this course, I did not have a grasp over this subject and knew it was something I could improve on....show

I have improved my grammar through feedback from my instructor, and workshops I participated in. There is a significant difference between my
writing conventions from the beginning of the year to my present writing conventions. In my second essay, The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life, I have
noticed many writing convention errors. In this essay I said, "Also with the lack of technology, they were influenced to be more adventurous and get
out of the house and explore things on their own" (The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life) This sentence is a prime example of faulty sentence structure; it
lacks punctuation in the right places. My third essay, Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors, has less errors and shows improvement on these writing
conventions. Improvement can be seen in the sentence, " Euthanasia should not be legal because it is not morally correct, undermines medical
research, and denies patients the final stage of growth"(Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors). This shows development on sentence structure,
punctuation, and helps gives my essay a polished look. Without this, errors I may have previously made would be even more

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having
to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally
decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I
thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right
track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did
not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took

I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed
me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique
before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I
started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they
would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there
should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a
writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am

This first semester at the University of Akron has flown by. I learned many new writing concepts that helped me become a better writer. English
composition was a required class that I had to take in order to get my degree. Although this class was required I still wanted to take this class to
become more knowledgeable about writing. Coming into English Composition I was worried about all of the papers and the workload that I would
have to complete. I knew that I was going to have to write a lot more than I previously had in highschool, but I was unsure of just how much. The
works that I decided to include in my portfolio comprise of my Literacy Narrative, Image Analysis Paper, and essay titled Mayas Hardships based on
Maya's experiences in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I selected these works because I felt that they are the ones that require the most
improvement to them. The papers i've chosen show how far I've came In English Composition. I have learned how to properly articulate and develop a
thesis statement, how to write while keeping the audience in mind, and how to engage in the steps of the writing process in English composition 110.
I decided to pick the first paper of the semester which was the Literacy Narrative. In this paper I learned how develop my thesis. I used the xyz form
that I was taught this year to make my thesis more clear and able to understand. This was a major problem I faced coming into this year. I've gradually
become better in this area taking

When I was signing up for my classes for my senior year, I decided to take English Composition 1 for my final English credit for the sole reason
that it takes only half a year to complete. I had been warned by veterans of the course that the class would be difficult. This did not bother me too
much, as taking AP Physics my junior year taught me that I work harder in an environment with rigorous work. During the course, I was delighted
when I discovered that the class has heavily improved my essay writing skills throughout the year. Each consecutive essay had improved my writing
for the better. At the beginning of the year, the class was assigned to write a simple essay about the story in a photograph. For this assignment, I
wrote an essay about a picture of myself and six friends during our freshman homecoming. I clearly remember writing that sample essay the night
before it was due without much thought or care into the paper. As it turns out, the grade I received reflected my work, as I earned around a sixty
percent. Thankfully, the professor of the class corrected everything wrong with my paper and verbally discussed with myself and the class on what
our biggest weaknesses were during our writing. It was at this point that I learned that in order to succeed both as a student and an essay writer, I
would have to focus harder and care more for my assignments. For the next essay, our class was tasked to write a persuasive about something that we
were passionate about. I

Before taking this class I never liked my English classes more specifically writing essays for them. I didn't understand much of how to use
strategies while writing essays and focuses little on learning it. By taking this class and using the strategies that I was provided with it made
taking this class easy and enjoyable while writing analytical essays. I was willing to put in the effort and do my part in order to get a good grade
in this English class and it worked. I feel that my performance in an English class has improved significantly. My Growth as a Writer The first day of
class I wasn't confident in my writing especially writing analytical essays. On the first day we rated our writing attitude on a scale of 1ā€“5 and in the
beginning of the semester mine was a 3. Now after taking this class, looking back as my essays I rate myself a 4 on scale. Activities that I found
that supported my growth as a writer was connecting the Big Ideas to my essay as well as making connections to other experiences. Also what made
me grow as a writer was the fact that when we did essays in class and on our own we started from the middle rather than starting with the introduction
and not knowing where to start. This helped with writing our character analysis in Unit 2 The Ron Clark Story. Learning in 1301 A couple of class
activities that encouraged me to feel confident about learning were getting in groups, one on one conferences, and whole class discussions. Getting in

English Class Reflection
Taking a collage level English class at 40 is an intimidating task, no matter who you are. I have always had a pretty healthy grasp of writing, and have
done it for fun most of my life. I loved to read in elementary school and found a new affection for writing in middle school when I was part of the UIL
ready writing team for the seventh grade. Coming in to the collage level class was still a daunting undertaking simply because it has been so long
since I had been graded on my work! Writing to someone else's standard is intimidating after 27 years of only writing for my own entertainment. I
was unsure what to expect in this class because I have never taken an English comp course and I only finished the 8th grade, so I have no high
school experience to draw from. Through the weeks of this course I have learned new processes for research, topic selection, and essay structure, as
well as other useful skills like building a website and giving an oral video report. I have grown as a writer over the course of this class in many ways,
from my organization skills to the proofreading process. The structure of this class was very interesting for me to learn a new way to think about
writing. I had never written a paper in segments, but after the first assignment I could see the benefit of focusing on one section at a time instead of
diving in and getting lost in the totality of the work. Allowing the focus on one section at a time prevents a writer from becoming overwhelmed and

Writing is a very important part of everyday life whether it be at your job or taking college courses. Haven taken this class, I have learned where
my writing is "slacking." I have definitely learned what I should work on the improve my writing to help. Small grammatical errors are definitely one
thing I struggle with and learned to improve. Research papers have always been a challenge for me. I have never done well with them but this class
has helped so much with better understanding how they're done. I also learned some new things that I have never heard of before in the writing world. I
have taken so much from this class that I can use to greater my writing in future situations. Studying Law is definitely a major that will require further

winning cases. You're trying to make a really good argument. So, knowing those rhetorical appeals can be very beneficial in my future in Law. I also

English Class Reflective Essay
Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me
how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was
particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced
high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally. One of the high
points of the class was consistently making high A's. We wrote a variety of different types of papers, and my grade was always respectable.
Succeeding in this class made me feel adequately prepared to write proper papers. Although I made impressive grades for the class, I was able to
do so with only minimal effort. Therefore, I knew I could execute my papers better. The quality of my writing seemed to stay stagnant over the
course of the year. This class would have been exponentially more beneficial had it challenged me to improve my writing, however it never did.
Although I was not overly challenged in my last English class, I have several weaknesses as a writer. My biggest weakness is neglecting to ask
important questions that could improve my writing. Receiving...show more content...
One of the most problematic difficulties I faced and am still facing is selfā€“revision. When writing a paper, it is extremely important to revise your
essay multiple times before submitting the final version. Every revision helps to build a more polished essay. I feel that my paper fails to progress
enough from the rough draft to the final. To fix this, I need to give myself longer breaks between revising. Becoming skilled at revising my own
papers will allow me to develop into a more competent, successful

This past semester for me was filled with many new experiences for me. It was filled with many enjoyable times, and even some struggles. I know
that regardless of what I went through, I am still happy I did. When I look not next semester I know I will have to change some small details about
myself to be better. I can see his second semester going well for me, even though I will harder to achieve my goals, I plan on working hard and getting
the grades, I know I can achieve. The general overview of my first semester I would say went well all the way through the end. Every single one of my
class I was able to complete all my assignments on time and I didn't need to ask for extended periods on any of them. Out of all my classes I was
most happy with how well I was able to understand my computer science class, especially with that being my intended major. I enjoyed my
English class a lot, but I struggled with the papers the because I don't see myself as that good of a writer and its difficult for me to get them started.
Even though I struggle with papers, at the end of the day I am still able to complete a decently written paper and turn it in. Away from school and
homework I had gotten the chances to go home a couple weekends to see family and friends, so I could spend time with them, which was nice. I also
enjoyed going to events around campus and meeting new people whom I am now friends with. Within the first semester there was very few things that

Reflection Paper About English Composition
English Composition I has developed my style of writing and my skills analyzing and researching topics to write a piece about a topic. Throughout
the course, I got better at analyzing articles and pieces to get the meaning of the topic. With that improved skill I was more able to use the
information given from the text and install it into my essays, with proper citation if needed. Before taking the English Composition course, I was not
one to organize my essays in an ordeal order to clearly state the point of the work. Now with taking the course, I have learned to organize my essays,
examine research for a topic, and develop an essay with proper mechanics, and revising skills. In writing my personal, review, analytical, and cultural

I then described my life and who I was. After describing this, I explained my experiences in confronting racism. The point of the essay was to state
that racism is still alive and can be present anywhere. After writing this essay, I learned that my mechanics and style was not where it should be. Even
with the revisions Mr. Heldenfels made in the draft, I still made mistakes with mechanics and tense shits. I had written comma splice and has several
spelling mistakes. I looked to improve my mechanics after writing this essay.
With writing my review essay of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's album The Bigger Artist. The essay took some time to write because of the research I
needed to gather. In this essay I used more citations and quotes. I made mistakes the mechanics in writing the quotes. This was the first essay in which
we used sources, so it was challenging to create my own ideas but I was able to do it. Writing this essay improved my knowledge of mechanics in
citations and quotations.
Through taking the course, I learned to utilizes sources in a more efficient way. In writing my analytical essay of Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A
Butterfly I had to use ten sources. All the sources I used provided different information, some provided more than others, but all sources were needed
to complete the essay. In collecting all the information for the essay, I had to research who created the source and decide if it was credible. This essay

I have had various positive experiences with writing before this class. In eighth grade, I was introduced to new writing styles including journal
writing, and book/character analyses. I also was enabled to improve my descriptive writing and build on my poetic voice. This class required me to
evolve my writing into something more precise and insightful. Freshman year, I took the Essentials of English course. I felt very open in this course
in the sense that I was exposed to a diversity of writing genres. This allowed me to craft a sophisticated writing style throughout the school year. I
learned a variety of new writing techniques which strengthened my ability to effectively convey a message. Some techniques I learned include, writing
from different perspectives, foreshadowing, and symbolism. Initially, I...show more content...

experiences on the subject I realized that my writing was more organized and my ideas were more masterfully developed. I spent the majority of my
time on my rough drafts. Most of my time was devoted to rough drafts since I prefer to have my ideas near complete in development the first time
around. Contrastingly, I preferred to concentrate on structure and grammar in my second and final drafts. I enjoyed writing that I could establish
influential language centered around a specific topic. For example, the review I wrote about the iMac Allā€“inā€“One was my favorite piece. I have
background in computer technology since my dad is an engineer, so this topic in particular was interesting to write about. I feel that my voice was
professional and I had an inā€“depth analysis with supporting facts which made this piece one of my strongest. This was a new genre for me, so I feel

Reflection For English Class
When I enrolled in English 101. I was happy and excited that I have one more class away from finishing English class for the rest of my school years.
The objective of the course was to make us better writers, and I certainly have improved. I learned what makes a paper good or bad, what makes it
easier to write a good paper, and how the manner that the class is held makes a difference. Then, I thought they were good because of the grades I got.
Now, I find myself working over twice as hard for half the grade. This isn 't a completely bad thing, though. It teaches me that my writing really wasn 't

I lost attention and interest with some of the assignments. I guess it was because short time and we had to rush to do 11 assignments. So I lost

assignments, I take the responsibility and consequences for the grades and feedback. There 's a lot of assignments that I know I messed up. I didn't

I will need to work on adapting to stuff more and slowing down and taking time. I have not accomplished metaā€“cognition but hope I will in the future.
Finally, I learned that the teachers makes a world of difference with children. Children are the future and without teachers we won 't go anywhere in

English 150: Reflection
Introductory Reflection
Throughout the semester for English 150, I learnt many skills in terms of writing, oral presentation, using visuals to assist my writings as well
preparing my work in electronic form. Personally, I think writing is a process. It is a way to express my thoughts and it cannot be taught in class, only
some guidance and opinions can help me improve my writing skills.
I'm satisfied with the syllabus given to us for English 150 because it required me to describe about some artifacts, buildings and related them to
myself. The requirements for each assignment vary based on the grading rubric. In some way, the assignments given to me were not just assignments,
they were a way for me to discover more of the campus besides learning the WOVE skills. It was indeed an enjoyable way to learn compared to other
courses that I'm taking.
I am able to spot some my strength and weaknesses in my writing after many inā€“class discussions with my peers and also individual consultation with

am ready to listen to my peers' comments. In fact, I feel more confident to present my work to the instructor after getting reviews from my peers.

The Dreaded English Class
The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't know for sure. I still need to decide what my
major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class
will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of the way now, I look to fineā€“tune my writing
skills, and I expect this course to help me understand my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to
complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course this past semester, so I did not want to take another
stressful class that I find to not be my strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as bad as it is
said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being a part time student and working full time is a lot to
balance on ones plate. I have learned that from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to reverse once
you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will
give me more time at work and more time to study. This sums up the reasons I chose to complete English 102. I hope to gain more writing experience in

Throughout English 1010 thus far, I can certainly say that my writing skills have been tested and tried. Writing for fun and composing rhetorical
essays for a collegeā€“level English class are vastly different styles and require contrasting attitudes, voices, and points of view for each. Before writing
essays of the former diction, I must admit that I did not understand the rhetorical strategies and had no idea there even was a rhetorical triangle. The
assignments included in this portfolio show the advancements I have made in my writing with an academic tone. While writing my summary and
response for the essay "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" by Jonathan Kozol, I quickly became aware of my weaknesses with shortening and
summarizing essays. Especially when trying to identify rhetoric, I tend to run on and have difficulty cutting out the extraneous and superfluous content.
Luckily for me, that was the entire point of the assignment and I filed those skills away for the sake of my future writing career. When revisiting this
piece, I found that there were certain sentences throughout that used opinion and have no place in a summary. For some reason, the visual analysis
assignment was by far my most difficult essay to finalize and compile into a...show more content...

audience," rather than the actual, specific target audience of the paper. This helped me implement much better usage of my understanding of the

English 101 Reflective Essay
English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself. When I decided to do a shortā€“term English class, I
thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that
existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multiā€“modal project. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project,
what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and
ended at the multiā€“modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I
previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found
that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate

Reflecting On English Class 111 Essay

  • 1. Reflecting on English Class 111 Essay Reflecting on English 111 My experience into English 111 not only left me anxious, it became a selfā€“revelation. My learning capabilities were challenged because writing did not come natural and the possibility of becoming a prominent writer were going to take a lot of time, effort and hard work. In spite of not knowing what to expect, I entered into this new semester pumped up carrying an "I can do this" attitude and feeling confident. Oh boy was I scared into complete and utter silence on my first encounter with my new instructor. The demands on us, as a student, seemed to be exceedingly high leaving no room for mistakes. On the contrary, being that this was all pretty much new for me, I began to panic. Meanwhile as I tried to...show more content... Then I began writing like never before, so to get an understanding on the inside of me that I too could do this. Attend college at my age and learn to write. I have to admit that when I received a grade of B, on my paper; I was thrilled not to mention exhausted. Needless to say, I was not looking forward to writing any more essays because there was so much work involved in receiving a passing grade. Then all of a sudden I was faced with the next English 111 assignment, which definitely was not going to be any easier. As in my promise to myself, I remained faithful not only to the commitment of college but to the fact that I still believe I was worth every effort that it was going to take to receive a passing grade of confidence which I so desired. After our first essay, we immediately began our second, "oh my God", were my exact words that I remembered myself saying, as I took a deep breathe. In fact, during all of this mind boggling confusion going on in my head, I felt that this next essay was going to be more complicated. Which immediately lead me to recall "What is Academic Writing Myth #4" when Irvin suggested that "Some got it; I don'tā€“ the genius fallacy" (5). Myth #4 suggests that when we begin to think of our writing flaws, we tend to blame genetics. We offer up explanations that it's out of our control, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Reflection On English Course After taking the University English course for a semester, I realize the course content is different from my anticipation but it is much more useful than what I expected. The aspects that I would like to improve in this course including my speaking, reading and writing skills. As the course mainly focus on the writing part, I find it really helpful and practical for my subsequent studies. Especially for the sentence structures part, which is also the main improvement I would like get from this course, it really inspires me a lot. I hoped I could master the use of different sentence structures because my previous writings were limited in some simple and dull structures, making my writing mediocre. After participating in this course, I really gain a lot. Many unclear concepts in sentence patterns that I have had since my secondary school are cleared now. For instance, in making some complex sentences, I always make grammatical mistakes and use erroneous subjects but do not know why they are wrongly used. The...show more content... For example, I intended to answer and ask questions frequently in the lessons. However, when I evaluate my performance in this semester, I discover I was diligent in the first few lessons but was not absorbed in the subsequent lessons due to the heavy workload of other subjects. I will try my best not to be a deadline fighter in next semester so that I can enjoy and focus on the lessons. Apart from improving my English through this course, I planned to do some actions in my daily lives in order to achieve my English goals. For example, I decided to read more English books and newspapers. It was difficult for me to read the whole books so I changed to watch English films and videos with English subtitles. Also, I read BBC News in the website twice a week. I found my English become better as I knew more vocabularies and my reading speed became Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. English Reflection In my previous English courses, I had no knowledge of writing an essay, or even a proper sentence. Writing did not seem like anything important in my life, or that it would affect me anyway in the future. I had despised my own writing and loathed having to write essays for any of my classes. When I had enrolled in Composition I, I had no idea what I was going to do to pass. However, in class, we had done collaborative work, which had helped me progress myself. Collaborative work had consisted of multiple students helping each other, sharing ideas, and peerā€“reviews. This was a change of pace for me since I had not done that before. In previous classes, I had done individual work, which was solely myself correcting and working on my work. Between collaborative work and individual work, I enjoyed working with partners and sharing each other's experiences to benefit ourselves. Over this class I have developed my writing skills, learned from my previous mistakes, and understood the writing process. To begin with, before taking this class I would have grammar errors, low level word choices, sentence fragments, contractions, and no sentence variety. The grammar in my essays would be something that I had never worked on or learned from. My word choices were that of a middle schooler and would sound childish at times. I had never taken the time to learn about the sentence variety and combinations that were possible. My knowledge of sentence variety was limited to only compound and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Before entering English 1301, I had my doubts about what this class was going to consist of. Considering this is a college level English class, and a subject I struggled in, my worries were not at ease. Throughout the year, my understanding and comprehension of the writing process, as well as how to write different varieties of writing, have strengthened. After partaking in this course, I am confident I have met the student learning outcomes. After completing my first college level English class, I would be expected to meet four student learning outcomes. One of those being I could use rhetorical devices to strengthen my essays. Coming into this course, I did not have a grasp over this subject and knew it was something I could improve on....show more content... I have improved my grammar through feedback from my instructor, and workshops I participated in. There is a significant difference between my writing conventions from the beginning of the year to my present writing conventions. In my second essay, The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life, I have noticed many writing convention errors. In this essay I said, "Also with the lack of technology, they were influenced to be more adventurous and get out of the house and explore things on their own" (The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life) This sentence is a prime example of faulty sentence structure; it lacks punctuation in the right places. My third essay, Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors, has less errors and shows improvement on these writing conventions. Improvement can be seen in the sentence, " Euthanasia should not be legal because it is not morally correct, undermines medical research, and denies patients the final stage of growth"(Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors). This shows development on sentence structure, punctuation, and helps gives my essay a polished look. Without this, errors I may have previously made would be even more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay About My English Class I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took American History and we would have to write...show more content... I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. English Reflection This first semester at the University of Akron has flown by. I learned many new writing concepts that helped me become a better writer. English composition was a required class that I had to take in order to get my degree. Although this class was required I still wanted to take this class to become more knowledgeable about writing. Coming into English Composition I was worried about all of the papers and the workload that I would have to complete. I knew that I was going to have to write a lot more than I previously had in highschool, but I was unsure of just how much. The works that I decided to include in my portfolio comprise of my Literacy Narrative, Image Analysis Paper, and essay titled Mayas Hardships based on Maya's experiences in I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I selected these works because I felt that they are the ones that require the most improvement to them. The papers i've chosen show how far I've came In English Composition. I have learned how to properly articulate and develop a thesis statement, how to write while keeping the audience in mind, and how to engage in the steps of the writing process in English composition 110. I decided to pick the first paper of the semester which was the Literacy Narrative. In this paper I learned how develop my thesis. I used the xyz form that I was taught this year to make my thesis more clear and able to understand. This was a major problem I faced coming into this year. I've gradually become better in this area taking Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. English Reflection Essay When I was signing up for my classes for my senior year, I decided to take English Composition 1 for my final English credit for the sole reason that it takes only half a year to complete. I had been warned by veterans of the course that the class would be difficult. This did not bother me too much, as taking AP Physics my junior year taught me that I work harder in an environment with rigorous work. During the course, I was delighted when I discovered that the class has heavily improved my essay writing skills throughout the year. Each consecutive essay had improved my writing for the better. At the beginning of the year, the class was assigned to write a simple essay about the story in a photograph. For this assignment, I wrote an essay about a picture of myself and six friends during our freshman homecoming. I clearly remember writing that sample essay the night before it was due without much thought or care into the paper. As it turns out, the grade I received reflected my work, as I earned around a sixty percent. Thankfully, the professor of the class corrected everything wrong with my paper and verbally discussed with myself and the class on what our biggest weaknesses were during our writing. It was at this point that I learned that in order to succeed both as a student and an essay writer, I would have to focus harder and care more for my assignments. For the next essay, our class was tasked to write a persuasive about something that we were passionate about. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. English Class Reflection Before taking this class I never liked my English classes more specifically writing essays for them. I didn't understand much of how to use strategies while writing essays and focuses little on learning it. By taking this class and using the strategies that I was provided with it made taking this class easy and enjoyable while writing analytical essays. I was willing to put in the effort and do my part in order to get a good grade in this English class and it worked. I feel that my performance in an English class has improved significantly. My Growth as a Writer The first day of class I wasn't confident in my writing especially writing analytical essays. On the first day we rated our writing attitude on a scale of 1ā€“5 and in the beginning of the semester mine was a 3. Now after taking this class, looking back as my essays I rate myself a 4 on scale. Activities that I found that supported my growth as a writer was connecting the Big Ideas to my essay as well as making connections to other experiences. Also what made me grow as a writer was the fact that when we did essays in class and on our own we started from the middle rather than starting with the introduction and not knowing where to start. This helped with writing our character analysis in Unit 2 The Ron Clark Story. Learning in 1301 A couple of class activities that encouraged me to feel confident about learning were getting in groups, one on one conferences, and whole class discussions. • 9. English Class Reflection Taking a collage level English class at 40 is an intimidating task, no matter who you are. I have always had a pretty healthy grasp of writing, and have done it for fun most of my life. I loved to read in elementary school and found a new affection for writing in middle school when I was part of the UIL ready writing team for the seventh grade. Coming in to the collage level class was still a daunting undertaking simply because it has been so long since I had been graded on my work! Writing to someone else's standard is intimidating after 27 years of only writing for my own entertainment. I was unsure what to expect in this class because I have never taken an English comp course and I only finished the 8th grade, so I have no high school experience to draw from. Through the weeks of this course I have learned new processes for research, topic selection, and essay structure, as well as other useful skills like building a website and giving an oral video report. I have grown as a writer over the course of this class in many ways, from my organization skills to the proofreading process. The structure of this class was very interesting for me to learn a new way to think about writing. I had never written a paper in segments, but after the first assignment I could see the benefit of focusing on one section at a time instead of diving in and getting lost in the totality of the work. Allowing the focus on one section at a time prevents a writer from becoming overwhelmed and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Small grammatical errors are definitely one thing I struggle with and learned to improve. Research papers have always been a challenge for me. • 11. English Class Reflective Essay Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally. One of the high points of the class was consistently making high A's. We wrote a variety of different types of papers, and my grade was always respectable. Succeeding in this class made me feel adequately prepared to write proper papers. Although I made impressive grades for the class, I was able to do so with only minimal effort. Therefore, I knew I could execute my papers better. The quality of my writing seemed to stay stagnant over the course of the year. This class would have been exponentially more beneficial had it challenged me to improve my writing, however it never did. Although I was not overly challenged in my last English class, I have several weaknesses as a writer. My biggest weakness is neglecting to ask important questions that could improve my writing. When writing a paper, it is extremely important to revise your essay multiple times before submitting the final version. Every revision helps to build a more polished essay. • 12. English Class Reflection This past semester for me was filled with many new experiences for me. It was filled with many enjoyable times, and even some struggles. I know that regardless of what I went through, I am still happy I did. When I look not next semester I know I will have to change some small details about myself to be better. I can see his second semester going well for me, even though I will harder to achieve my goals, I plan on working hard and getting the grades, I know I can achieve. The general overview of my first semester I would say went well all the way through the end. Every single one of my class I was able to complete all my assignments on time and I didn't need to ask for extended periods on any of them. Out of all my classes I was most happy with how well I was able to understand my computer science class, especially with that being my intended major. I enjoyed my English class a lot, but I struggled with the papers the because I don't see myself as that good of a writer and its difficult for me to get them started. Even though I struggle with papers, at the end of the day I am still able to complete a decently written paper and turn it in. Away from school and homework I had gotten the chances to go home a couple weekends to see family and friends, so I could spend time with them, which was nice. I also enjoyed going to events around campus and meeting new people whom I am now friends with. • 13. Reflection Paper About English Composition English Composition I has developed my style of writing and my skills analyzing and researching topics to write a piece about a topic. Throughout the course, I got better at analyzing articles and pieces to get the meaning of the topic. With that improved skill I was more able to use the information given from the text and install it into my essays, with proper citation if needed. Before taking the English Composition course, I was not one to organize my essays in an ordeal order to clearly state the point of the work. Now with taking the course, I have learned to organize my essays, examine research for a topic, and develop an essay with proper mechanics, and revising skills. In writing my personal, review, analytical, and cultural ...show more content... I then described my life and who I was. After describing this, I explained my experiences in confronting racism. The point of the essay was to state that racism is still alive and can be present anywhere. After writing this essay, I learned that my mechanics and style was not where it should be. Even with the revisions Mr. Heldenfels made in the draft, I still made mistakes with mechanics and tense shits. I had written comma splice and has several spelling mistakes. I looked to improve my mechanics after writing this essay. With writing my review essay of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's album The Bigger Artist. The essay took some time to write because of the research I needed to gather. In this essay I used more citations and quotes. I made mistakes the mechanics in writing the quotes. This was the first essay in which we used sources, so it was challenging to create my own ideas but I was able to do it. Writing this essay improved my knowledge of mechanics in citations and quotations. Through taking the course, I learned to utilizes sources in a more efficient way. In writing my analytical essay of Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly I had to use ten sources. All the sources I used provided different information, some provided more than others, but all sources were needed to complete the essay. In collecting all the information for the essay, I had to research who created the source and decide if it was credible. • 14. Reflective Essay On English Class Reflection Essay I have had various positive experiences with writing before this class. In eighth grade, I was introduced to new writing styles including journal writing, and book/character analyses. I also was enabled to improve my descriptive writing and build on my poetic voice. This class required me to evolve my writing into something more precise and insightful. Freshman year, I took the Essentials of English course. I felt very open in this course in the sense that I was exposed to a diversity of writing genres. This allowed me to craft a sophisticated writing style throughout the school year. I learned a variety of new writing techniques which strengthened my ability to effectively convey a message. Some techniques I learned include, writing from different perspectives, foreshadowing, and symbolism. Initially, I...show more content... Generally, I selected writing topics that were close to me or that I was already educated on. When I already had background knowledge from prior experiences on the subject I realized that my writing was more organized and my ideas were more masterfully developed. I spent the majority of my time on my rough drafts. Most of my time was devoted to rough drafts since I prefer to have my ideas near complete in development the first time around. Contrastingly, I preferred to concentrate on structure and grammar in my second and final drafts. I enjoyed writing that I could establish influential language centered around a specific topic. For example, the review I wrote about the iMac Allā€“inā€“One was my favorite piece. I have background in computer technology since my dad is an engineer, so this topic in particular was interesting to write about. I feel that my voice was professional and I had an inā€“depth analysis with supporting facts which made this piece one of my strongest. This was a new genre for me, so I feel that because I was passionate about this subject, my writing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Reflection For English Class When I enrolled in English 101. I was happy and excited that I have one more class away from finishing English class for the rest of my school years. The objective of the course was to make us better writers, and I certainly have improved. I learned what makes a paper good or bad, what makes it easier to write a good paper, and how the manner that the class is held makes a difference. Then, I thought they were good because of the grades I got. Now, I find myself working over twice as hard for half the grade. This isn 't a completely bad thing, though. It teaches me that my writing really wasn 't very good. What I used to think deserved an "A" I now realize only does deserve a "C." Now I have to take my writing more seriously, and try...show more content... I lost attention and interest with some of the assignments. I guess it was because short time and we had to rush to do 11 assignments. So I lost interest and attention. For one assignment it will be do the next day class and people had jobs and other classes to worry about also. For some assignments, I take the responsibility and consequences for the grades and feedback. There 's a lot of assignments that I know I messed up. I didn't reread or slow down. Also because I didn't understand the assignment itself. With flexibility I had trouble and still am. Doing a lot of stuff all at once. I will need to work on adapting to stuff more and slowing down and taking time. I have not accomplished metaā€“cognition but hope I will in the future. Finally, I learned that the teachers makes a world of difference with children. Children are the future and without teachers we won 't go anywhere in life. Some teachers believe they are better and they know a lot. I believe that their are some stuff teachers don't know that they also need to ask student sometimes. You, on the other hand, made the class interesting. Even though I get distracted easily but I understand and like the class. You kept my attention, which is often hard to do. You seemed able to relate to us in a friendly way. You enter the class with a glass of coffee and ready to work and teach. the class thinking, "I know what I 'm talking about, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. English 150: Reflection Introductory Reflection Throughout the semester for English 150, I learnt many skills in terms of writing, oral presentation, using visuals to assist my writings as well preparing my work in electronic form. Personally, I think writing is a process. It is a way to express my thoughts and it cannot be taught in class, only some guidance and opinions can help me improve my writing skills. I'm satisfied with the syllabus given to us for English 150 because it required me to describe about some artifacts, buildings and related them to myself. The requirements for each assignment vary based on the grading rubric. In some way, the assignments given to me were not just assignments, they were a way for me to discover more of the campus besides learning the WOVE skills. It was indeed an enjoyable way to learn compared to other courses that I'm taking. I am able to spot some my strength and weaknesses in my writing after many inā€“class discussions with my peers and also individual consultation with my instructor. I find it most constructive when my peers gave me their opinions on my essay. It is...show more content... I learnt many ways to improve my essays such as using Criterion, an online resource to grade my essay and check for errors. I also learnt to cite my work using MLA format. I learnt to edit my essays for grammatical errors, structure of the essay, substances and style based on the rhetorical pentad. I am ready to listen to my peers' comments. In fact, I feel more confident to present my work to the instructor after getting reviews from my peers. I have improved to a better and more holistic writer than before. I'm happy to know that my writing skills have evolved into another stage. Hopefully my writing skills can improve further. If I am given a chance to go through this learning process again, I would definitely come to classes again, for free of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. The Dreaded English Class The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of the way now, I look to fineā€“tune my writing skills, and I expect this course to help me understand my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course this past semester, so I did not want to take another stressful class that I find to not be my strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as bad as it is said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being a part time student and working full time is a lot to balance on ones plate. I have learned that from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to reverse once you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will give me more time at work and more time to study. This sums up the reasons I chose to complete English 102. I hope to gain more writing experience in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Throughout English 1010 thus far, I can certainly say that my writing skills have been tested and tried. Writing for fun and composing rhetorical essays for a collegeā€“level English class are vastly different styles and require contrasting attitudes, voices, and points of view for each. Before writing essays of the former diction, I must admit that I did not understand the rhetorical strategies and had no idea there even was a rhetorical triangle. The assignments included in this portfolio show the advancements I have made in my writing with an academic tone. While writing my summary and response for the essay "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" by Jonathan Kozol, I quickly became aware of my weaknesses with shortening and summarizing essays. Especially when trying to identify rhetoric, I tend to run on and have difficulty cutting out the extraneous and superfluous content. Luckily for me, that was the entire point of the assignment and I filed those skills away for the sake of my future writing career. When revisiting this piece, I found that there were certain sentences throughout that used opinion and have no place in a summary. For some reason, the visual analysis assignment was by far my most difficult essay to finalize and compile into a...show more content... That being said, other times you learn just as much from revising your work as you did from completing the initial assignment. Refining my rhetorical analysis was indeed an experience of both ā€“ troublesome and rewarding. Since my academic voice is somewhat similar to when I began this class, I decided to simply move and alter bits and pieces of the text. The biggest change was correcting the many instances where I use the wording "the audience," rather than the actual, specific target audience of the paper. This helped me implement much better usage of my understanding of the rhetorical triangle. Adjusting wording and phrasing also bettered the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. English 101 Reflective Essay English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself. When I decided to do a shortā€“term English class, I thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multiā€“modal project. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project, what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and ended at the multiā€“modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate by telling them that they did an awesome job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project brought tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more content...
