People, around the world, throw away roughly four million tons of trash every day—that's enough to fill 350,000 garbage trucks or 10 Empire State Buildings.
About 12.8 percent of that waste is plastic!
Can we do anything about it?

Do You Know the estimated time for
some items to decompose in landfill sites?
Plastic bag: 500-1000 years
Tin can: around 50 years
Children diapers: 500-800 years
Glass bottles: 1,000,000 years
Hairspray bottle: 200-500 years
Fishing line: 600 years

Reduce
A key part of waste "reduction" is
"conservation"—using natural resources
wisely, and using less than usual in order
to avoid waste.

Reduce
Every week, try to throw out less and less
and see how much you can minimize your
waste in a month. Some people have
managed to put an entire year’s worth of
garbage in one jar.
Can you beat that?

Reuse
You can "reuse" materials in their original
form instead of throwing them away, or
pass those materials on to others who
could use them too!

Reuse
Take along washable cups or travel mugs
instead of disposables. When you do use
disposables, don't throw them away!
wash and reuse them.
It doesn't make any sense to throw away
your bicycle after one use.

Recycle
Defined as the process of converting
waste materials into new materials and
objects. It is an effective alternative to
"conventional" waste disposal (dumping
waste at landfill sites).

Recycle
Can prevent the waste of potentially
useful materials and reduce the
consumption of fresh raw materials,
thereby reducing: energy usage, air
pollution, and water pollution.

Why Recycling?
Fact 1:
Over 60% of the trash that ends in dustbin could be
recycled.
Fact 2:
Plastic bags that are thrown into the ocean kill over
a million sea creatures a year.
Fact 3:
Over 25 trillion Styrofoam coffee cups are thrown
away each year, just by Americans!

Why Recycling?
Fact 4:
The amount of wood and paper that are thrown
each year is enough to heat 50,000,000 homes for
20 years.
Fact 5:
Recycling one ton of plastic can save up to 1,000–
2,000 gallons of gasoline.
Fact 6:
Recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy to
power a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
