Professional Experience
❖ BioChar Water Purification Research Scientist
➢ April 2014 to Present: Univ. of Florida; Gainesville, FL
Experimentation with sorption of methylene blue contaminant. Analyzed the
water quality results filtered by bagasse biochar. The biochar filter was
treated with varying washing techniques. Washing techniques included tap
water, hydroxide (base), hydrochloric acid, acetone (organic), deionized
water and a combination of all substances.
Accomplishments
● Successful Results:
○ Purification from 10 ppm to 0.002 ppm
● PhD Caliber Experimentation & Lead to Expansion on Results
❖ IPPD Engineer: Duke Energy
➢ August 2015Present: Univ. of Florida; Gainesville, FL
Integrated Product & Process Design is a UF and industry collaboration
program. Along with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, I am analyzing
the condition of the current quality of incoming effluent water from UF’s
Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The team and I are responsible for
lowering the Silt Density Index level to a target of three, to prevent filtration
membrane damage and increase operational efficiency. The result of
producing higher quality water leads to financial savings for Duke Energy
and environmental benefits for the several actors involved.
