EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION
Job satisfaction refers to a person’s feeling of satisfaction on the job, which acts as a motivation
to work. It is not the self-satisfaction, happiness or self-contentment but the satisfaction on the
job. Job satisfaction relates to the total relationship between an individual and the employer for
which he is paid. Satisfaction means the simple feeling of attainment of any goal or objective.
Job dissatisfaction brings an absence of motivation at work. Job satisfaction is defined as the,
“pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job as achieving or
facilitating the achievement of one’s job values.” In contrast job dissatisfaction is defined as
“the unpleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job as frustrating or
blocking the attainment of one’s job values or as entailing disvalues.” However, both
satisfaction and dissatisfaction were seen as, “a function of the perceived relationship between
what one perceives it as offering or entailing.”
Hoppock offered one of the earliest definitions of job satisfaction when he described the
construct as being any number of psychological, physiological, and environmental
circumstances which leads a person to express satisfaction with their job. Smith et al. (1969)
defined job satisfaction as the feeling an individual has about his or her job. Locke (1969)
suggested that job satisfaction was a positive or pleasurable reaction resulting from the
appraisal of one’s job, job achievement, or job experiences.
Job satisfaction is a frequently studied subject in work and organizational literature. This is
mainly due to the fact that many experts believe that job satisfaction trends can affect labour
market behaviour and influence work productivity, work effort, employee absenteeism and
staff turnover. Moreover, job satisfaction is considered a strong predictor of overall individual
well-being, as well as a good predictor of intentions or decisions of employees to leave a job.
Job satisfaction is also important in everyday life. Organizations have significant effects on the
people who work for them and some of those effects are reflected in how people feel about
their work. This makes job satisfaction an issue of substantial importance for both employers
and employees.
Employee satisfaction is a factor in motivation, retention and goal achievement in the place of
work and commitment is a factor that include no excess work load, treating employee with
respect, provide recognition & rewards, fringe benefits and positive management. The purpose
of this topic is to study the employee satisfaction and organizational commitment and to
examine the satisfaction level of staff and its impact on Commitment. This is descriptive and
empirical in nature and purposive sampling technique is used. The study is based on primary
data, which has been collected through structural questionnaire, filled by member stake 50
6. 6
respondents of has been selected on random sampling basis percentage method is used for data
analysis. According to findings of this data the employee satisfaction effects commitment of
management and staff. Factors affecting employee satisfaction and commitment are rewards,
stress, leave, benefits and compensation given to the staff by the management which are
important to improve the motivation level and employee satisfaction.
Employee satisfaction is a term that is used to describe if employees are happy and fulfilling
their desires and needs at work. The crucial factor with employee satisfaction is that satisfied
employees must do the job and make the contributions that the employer needs.
Employee satisfaction is a wider term that is used by the Human Capital industry to describe
how satisfied or content employees are with elements like their jobs, their employee
experience, and the organizations they work for. Employee satisfaction is one key metric that
can help determine the overall pulse of an organization, which is why many organizations
employ regular surveys to measure employee satisfaction and track satisfaction trends over
time. A high satisfaction level shows that employees are happy with how their employer treats
them
Often, the term employee satisfaction is used interchangeably with employee engagement;
however, while engagement is one-factor influencing overall satisfaction (and it may be said
the reverse is also somewhat true), the two are not the same.
Satisfaction, which is important for retention, is not necessarily a predictor of performance,
while engagement—which indicates an employee’s passion for their work, among other
things—is directly tied to output. Ideally, satisfaction occurs as a result of both factors like
compensation and benefits as well as less-tangible elements like engagement, recognition, and
strong leadership.
How do you achieve employee satisfaction?
1. Be Realistic with Your Expectations-
At the root of a lot of stress, anxiety, and frustration that many employees feel are unrealistic
expectations from the organization. As a leader, it’s your responsibility to make sure employees
are not feeling pressurized /stressed out work or overwhelmed, they likely won’t have the
courage to raise that as an issue. This might be hard for you to do depending on what the
organization’s goals are, but more than anything you should be having an open mindset and
honest discussions with your team to see if expectations are too high.
7. 7
2. Recognize Good Work-
Recognizing your employees is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to increase job
satisfaction. The only thing it requires of you is to be more mindful of what’s going on around
you. Increasing your emotional intelligence will help you become more mindful and
appreciative of what your team is doing.
3. Focus On the Long Term
Short-term thinking or looking forward to “quick wins” are not only bad for business but can
be incredibly frustrating for employees. In order for employees to get motivated, they need to
see the similar long-term vision that the senior leadership team has. This plays into not only
having a mission and core values that you adhere to because the mission is long term and can
get employees excited.
4. Communicate More-
Remember, there’s no such thing as excessive communication. Also, the lack of
communication is the source of a lot of frustration in the workplace. Knowledge is power, so
there’s no reason why you shouldn’t want to empower your employees with as much as
available. Work on creating a culture of open and honest communication within your team.
That feeling of safety and comforts of saying whatever you want to anyone on your team is a
key component of a successful team.
5. Care About Employee Well-being-
Showing employees that you genuinely care for their well-being is one of the most effective
ways to increase job satisfaction.
6. Offer Opportunities for Learning-
Personal growth is arguably the most important factor in employee engagement. When
employees stop learning, they plateau and get bored, eventually looking elsewhere for
stimulation. You can stop this by applying programs for continuous learning. Employees will
love you for it.
7. Give Frequent Feedback
8. 8
Employees want feedback vigorously and aren’t as sensitive as you might think. There is no
need to be rude with your feedback, but if you are straightforward and honest, employees will
respect that. Make time for regular feedback by scheduling one-on-ones once a month with
every individual of your team, and create more of those informal opportunities for
conversation.
8. Don’t Focus Too Much on Perks-
Perks are nice-to-have, but there is no need to put too much emphasis on perks. There is one
caveat though. They say that the one perk that does make a difference is flexible time.
Employees just love the fact that they are trusted enough to have some flexibility in their
schedule.
9. Empower Employees
For employees to be satisfied at work, they need to feel like they’re in control. They should
feel like they have the autonomy they need to do amazing work that they can be proud of.

LEARNING STENGTH
❖ TECHNICAL LEARNING-
1. Follow Up of the Material:
The first task that
I was asked to do was the Follow up of the material that was not delivered
at the Khanna Paper Mill from the long time. The Software was given in
which all the information regarding the material and vendor name with
the delivery date. My task was to either make a reminder call or write a
reminder mail with the material description and the Purchase Order No.
29. 29
with which the vendor get to know about the product and reverts back
with the reply.
2. Comparison Sheet:
The Second task that I
performed was the preparation of the Comparison sheet. The Comparison
sheet is the sheet in which the different price from the different vendor of
the same product is compared. The Comparison sheet helps to make the
Purchase Order easily with the lowest price of the product. For the
preparation of comparison sheet there must be at least more than two
vendors. If there is only single vendor then the Purchase Order is released
for the same.
3. DMS Entry:
The Next task that I performed was the DMS Entry. No one in the plant
except the directors knows the full form of the DMS Entry. The DMS
Entry is basically done for the entry of the material that is received
through the courier service. The DMS Entry is done by mail in which I
have to scan the bill and send to the Entry Gate through mail with the
Subject: DMS ENTRY-Firm Name. Then the person on gate will do the
dams and the store boy will come to pick up the material.
4. CHECKING OF DELIVERY STATUS:
The next task was to check the delivery status of the material whether the
material is delivered or not. In this I am given with the sheet on which we
get the material name and the Purchase Order. My work was to copy the
Purchase Order and paste it on the provided software to check the delivery
status.
30. 30
5. PREPERATION OF THE L.P.P SHEET:
The other work that was allotted to me during the internship period was the preparation of
the L.P.P sheet. The L.P.P Sheet stands for the Last Purchase Price. The Last Purchase price
sheet is the Sheet in which the last price of the material is written which is bought in last
time to compare with the New Quoted Price.
In this I was given with Material Code along with the material description and I
have to copy the material code and paste that in the software. The Software gives
the Purchase History of the particular material. I have to pick the last latest
purchase price and paste it into the L.P.P sheet. In this way the Last Purchase
Price Sheet is Prepared.
❖ PERSONALITY BASED LEARNING-
1. Communication skills- While working with the Khanna paper mill, I learned with
the communication skills. While working there I got to communicate with the people as a
businessman. It made a way a talking with someone whom you are dealing with.
2. Confidence- The internship of 5 months made me man of full confidence. The
training was not the training instead it was school of many qualities that an entrepreneur needs
in his life for taking the business into heights.
3. Motivation- Another special quality that I learnt from there was that never get
demotivated in the life when you are in the business life as ups and downs come in every
human’s life. The one dealing with other
should be always motivated as it gives a good expression on other.
4. Creativity-
Another one quality is the creativity that an every businessman should
have in big amount. It is because all the work depends upon the creation of the product. How
the product is made.
The summer internship Programmed was of more than 5 months. Khanna Paper
Mills posted on Full Time internship. On 28 Jan 2022 I walked in to the interview
in Amritsar Branch and cleared the interview and started my internship on 31 Jan.
Though it was full time unpaid internship programmed, people were excited to
work with the company as, they have a good reputation in the work field. Most
31. 31
of the interns were MBA Students from the main campus, Guru Nanak Dev
University and very few were Under-Graduates including me.
Talking about the internship programmed, those 5 months period was a very
fruitful to me. During these 5 months I learned a lot more of things in the
