UNIVERSAL
DESIGN:
1. Buildings!
Meant to produce
(1,2,&3) that are
accessible to people
young/old and
with/without
disabilities
3. Environments!
3. IMPLEMENTED IN EDUCATION
• This idea of universal design is needed to be in all aspects of
education because students are obviously very diverse and
that is the beauty of education. Students can differ in so many
categories that may or may be an advantages in certain cases
such as; Their skin color, physical well-being, first spoken
language, background, neighborhood.
• Why is implementation of this so important?
This is so important because with student’s diverse
livelihoods they will all learn a bit differently and even at
different rates so teachers and educators need to create
ways of learning for students with all different types of
learning capabilities.
4. UNIVERSAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES
In today’s world people must include universal design principles
when in the businesses of architecture, engineers, and many
others as well so all people are included into what they are
creating or designing. This concept is also needed in education
and some of these main principles are very necessary in
schooling today:
• FLEXIBILITY IN USE There is such a wide range of people
in schools so teachers and educators need to be open to
various ways of learning for students.
• TOLERANCE FOR ERROR Students make mistakes, and
some students learn at different rates, so slower-paced
students should and must be able to be learning at the pace
most suitable for them without any penalties.
• PERCEPTIBLE INFORMATION Simply, information must
be attainable for all students to understand in order for
success in a course. Teachers and educators must find ways
to help make information easily accessible to their students.
• SIZE AND SPACE FOR APPROACH AND USE Whether
this means literal classroom space or figurative outlines for
appropriate futuristic timelines for all students’ success.
5. IMPORTANCE FOR FUTURE UNIVERSAL DESIGN
This is so important because all students have the right to learn
and with this students have the right to learn at whatever pace
they are most comfortable with and succeed best at. The idea of
UNIVERSAL DESIGN gives an equal chance to students no
matter what, whether this is in the classroom or simply having
wheelchair ramps to the school for those who have a
handicapped. All people are important and this is needed for
students to understand at a young age, because nothing is
worse than discrimination and if we teach the younger
generations that the best way is equality then we are setting up
a bright future for schoolings arouns the country and even the
world.
