2. Zebra Crossing Memorial
Location: Libson, Portugal
Grotesque as it may sound but this crosswalk creates awareness
for pedestrians through the stenciled names of the 137
pedestrians who were killed by cars.
On the curb, it reads “1/4 das vítimas de acidentes de automóvel
são peões” which translates to “1/4 victims of automobile
accidents are pedestrians.”
3. 3D Zebra Crossing
Location: Changsha, China
The capital of Central China’s Hunan Province installed this
colorful 3D Zebra crosswalk to improve pedestrian safety. It was
specially designed to bring attention to the drivers as they pass
across the intersection.
4. Life counts for much. Slow down.
Location: Kiev, Ukraine
This crosswalk creates awareness for drivers and pedestrians by
displaying the count of numbers drivers face in prison if they
don’t drive safely, and for pedestrians’ lives if they are not
careful when crossing.
5. Love Zebra Crossing
Location: Chengdu, China
The Love Zebra Crossing is located close to where two rivers
meet. It is to create awareness for many local drivers who
disregard the typical black and white crosswalks in Chengdu
where many accidents occur. The crosswalk has helped increase
pedestrian traffic, some of whom even dress for the romantic
occasion.
6. McDonald’s Crosswalk
Location: Zurich, Switzerland
In 2010, McDonald’s produced an innovative marketing
campaign during Zurichfest, Switzerland’s biggest public festival.
It’s during this time that many businesses are allowed to use
crosswalks for creative and promotional purposes.
7. Mr. Clean
Location: South Italy
A crosswalk advertisement for Mr. Clean shows a normal looking
crosswalk with a cleaner white line that stands out showing the
brand logo as a comparison to the other filthy looking lines.
8. Peanuts Abbey Road
Location: Osaka, Japan
This street art located just right outside Universal Studios Japan
features the Peanuts characters’ parody of the famous Abbey
Road album cover to promote the theme park’s Flying Snoopy

distance from the crosswalk.
9. Scramble
Location: Oakland, California
These crosswalks in the streets of Oakland’s Chinatown feature a
design that appear like a giant board game of scrambles. This
was installed to help cut down the number of accidents and
injuries during heavy traffic.
There is now a feature called the 15-second all pedestrians
phase where vehicles stop for 15 seconds to allow pedestrians to
cross at any direction, even diagonally.
10. Barefoot Hoppers
Location: Shenyang, China
This crosswalk built in 2014 features a bright orange color with
barefoot prints to promote safer road crossings. Pedestrians are
encouraged to pay attention to the traffic when crossing the
street as opposed to, say, look at their cellphones or listen to
music in their headphones.
11. Trapeze Artist
Location: Northampton, Massauchusetts
This is a creative crosswalk proposed for the Main Street in
Northampton, Massachusetts. The design is anamorphic
positioning the illustration in the middle of the street making its
shape clearer only when the pedestrian is on either side of the
road while they wait to cross.
