The document summarizes a trailer plan for a film about mind control. The film's plot involves a government secretly brainwashing its population through pills, lacking free will. When the protagonist finds a way to avoid the pills' effects, he starts experiencing visions and must go into hiding from the government trying to kill him to understand the visions. The trailer will use on-screen text, camera techniques like low angles, and editing to convey this plot and the themes of reality, conspiracy, and the mind's effects within 3 minutes.
1. Trailer Plan Write-up
After coming up with a range of ideas on a Google Doc on content, plot, themes and
characters with Josh Davey, we have decided to go with the idea involving mind control.
This is set in a reality where the entire population has been brainwashed by the government
through the distribution of pills. This has created a humanity lacking free will and unaware
of the government’s secrets. When the protagonist finds a way to cheat the system not only
does he begin to realise the deadly actions of the government but also experiences strange
premonitions as he descends into illness. Forced to go on the run he must hide himself from
the government who wants him dead and realise the meaning of his visions before it’s too
late.
This will be expressed using many of the content ideas we expressed on the Doc including
on-screen text to help explain the plot in a short amount of time. Also we will make use of
the technical elements in order to represent the characters e.g. the government agents
wearing suits to make them seem official and low angle shots to connote their authority.
The trailer will also require various uses of editing, especially to bring across the visions and
illness of the protagonist.
The main themes expressed in the trailer will include reality (or the illusion of it), conspiracy
and the effects of the mind which are all conventional for a psychological thriller. We will
also bring across conventions of the genre through contrasting uses of fast and slow paced
editing which emphasise the suspense and low and high key lighting to contrast the illusion
world from reality.
