3. Koshika's Annual Report FY 2017-18
meaning:
The sun does not shine there, nor does the moon, nor do the stars, nor lightning
and much less, this fire. When He shines, everything shines after Him:
by His light, all these shine
(Kathopanishad 2.2.15)
It is due to God's grace shining through the donor as the giver and the needy as
the beneficiary, that Koshika gets the opportunity to be the medium of His infinite
benevolence. We are eternally grateful to God and all of you - the donors, the
beneficiaries, the partner hospitals, all the associates, for working with us, to usher
in a New Dawn, in the lives of the needy.
New Initiative
We believe a life should not end before it begins.
We expanded our efforts to save little lives by deciding to support children's heart
surgeries & cath procedures. 1 in every 125 children are born with heart defects.
Such children either face stunted growth or death. Often hailing from poor
backgrounds, the young parents are unable to afford the very expensive
treatment. Paediatric cardiac interventions & open-heart surgeries are a very
highly specialised discipline, available only at select hospitals. Koshika has joined
hands with Dr Devi Shetty's Narayana Health hospital in Jaipur, for sponsoring
such children's heart surgeries. 2 years old Hitesh, the sone of a labourer from
Udaipur, underwent a very complicated heart surgery, in March'18, under this
programme.

FCRA Registration
Koshika received the FCRA Registration with effect from 15th January,
2018. This is valid for 5 years. By virtue of this registration, Koshika
can now receive donations from 'foreign entities'. This should help to
expand the donor base of Koshika, enabling it to serve more needy
people.
Income Tax Demand
Koshika received a demand for Rs 17,48,620 from the Income Tax
Department, for AY 2016-17. The tax was calculated after disallowing
expenses, which was due to late online filing of the audit report, by the
auditor. An appeal is being filed with the Income Tax Department, and
it is hoped that this demand will be reversed.

Koshika will henceforth require FCRA certificates from auditors, for
filing annual FCRA Returns. Owing to their preoccupation and firm's
policy of not giving FCRA related certificates on FOC basis, Sharp &
Tannan resigned as auditors. We are grateful for their support. Singh
K.V. Gupta & Co. were appointed as new auditors; they have
considerable experience of audit & compliances in the social sector.

10. A new initiative to save little hearts
Koshika began sponsoring free Heart surgeries for children. The first
life-saving open-heart surgery was performed on 2 years old Hitesh
Meena, the son of a labourer from Udaipur, Rajasthan. The surgery
was conducted by competent surgeons at NH Multispeciality Hospital in
Jaipur; this hospital is part of the Narayana Hrudayalay group of the
famous cardiac surgeon Dr Devi Shetty.
Supporting community health
2 years old Hitesh needed a life-
saving surgery. This surgery
would cost over Rs 4 lacs in
Delhi. Luckily, NH Hospital in
Jaipur was willing to offer a highly
discounted cost of Rs 1.62 lacs.
But the boy's father, a labourer
from Udaipur, could not afford to
pay this reduced cost. God saved
this little life , as the surgery was
supported by Koshika
