INTRODUCTION & MISSION STATEMENT
Last year’s team Mission Statement:
• To simulate a long shooting distance (up 90 M) within indoor range space
(18M) to validate emulation methodology & algorithms with proof of concept
• Designed a model that could emulate different ranges based on an algorithm.
This Years Mission Statement (produceability & affordability):
• Design shippable, transportable, lower weight/cost & easily assembled stand
that addresses identified issues with last years final prototypes
REQUIREMENTS
& DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
Requirements (Carried over from pervious year):
• Emulate 18-90m shooting distances
• Collapsible & Portable
• Utilized scaled emulation target faces
Design Specifications/goals:
• Manufacturability: Cost-Effective, simple design, easy to maintain.
• Affordability: Competitive sale price, minimum storage space & weight.
• Transportability: Fit to standard shipping, resistant packaging, and lightweight.
• User-Friendly: Easy of setup and, easy to move around, simple to repair.
• Operational Safety: Minimize hazards, maximize structure factor of safety.
First team goal: prove concept, our goal: make cost effective

PRINCIPAL DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
Top Case:
• Shelving units with two pulleys on top shelf
Target Cage:
• Cage frame developed from shelving units
• Maintains stability during operation by 8 wheels
on each corner guided by the main frame corner
columns
Bottom Cage:
• Four wheels mounted at the bottom of the cage
for mobility
• Particle board where Target Cage sits
Motor:
• Winch motor used along with pulleys to drive
target cage position
Design & Analysis performed utilizing SolidWorks
CRITICAL ANALYSIS AREA
• Buckling of support stands
• Tipping Angle of fully erected stand
• Deflection (Induced by Tension of
Target Cage) resulting in biding &
resulting destruction by winch
• Ability to fit into max UPS& FedEx
shipping limits:
Weight: 150 lbs (70 kg).
Packages: 165 inches (length and
girth combined)
Packages: 108 inches in length.
• Use of SolidWorks Key to success
Failure to solve any key issue would have doomed design
