The Euphonium’s main role
 The Euphonium usually
  is a backup tenor horn
to beef up the sound of
  a high-playing
  instrument in a band.
 It usually sits in the back
  of the band
 But this is not the horns
  only role, this instrument
  also has a great voice
  for soloing.

Origins of the Euphonium
 The first in the
    linage of the
    euphonium is the
    Serpent.
 It sounded close to
    the human voice

Origins of the Euphonium
 The next instrument
    after the Serpent is
    the Ophicleide
 It sounded close to
    a modern
    Euphonium but
    lacked reliability.

The modern Euphonium
                                                             The modern horn
                                                                uses valves to

                                                             Unlike the previous

The brass family

 The brass family consists of 4 main

 Sopranos trumpets
 Altos French horns
 Tenors Euphoniums
 Bass Tubas
How the Euphonium works
 Each valve
    combination activates
    a different harmonic
    series from which the
    player can choose a
    pitch based on the
    angle of their
    airstream and the
