Hear the stories of old Brooklyn Heights through the words of its most famous, infamous, and important writers. Whether these writers
attended or shunned the churches that dotted their community, they labored at individualized creative soul-searching that mirrored
spirituality. Quotes and visual aids will be used to build historical and cultural context around both churches and authors. Although the
tour is a kind of literary sampling of America's top writers and architecture, it is also exceedingly scenic. It winds through the city's first
historic district and includes a jaunt on the Promenade overlooking Manhattan. Cafes, theaters, parks, and shops (including a few
bookshops) offer many pre and post-tour options.
