Editor's Notes
Introduction : Understanding God’s plan of Salvation is as easy as A-B-C. These verses from the book of Romans are called the "Roman's Road." We call this God’s simple plan of salvation. I. A LL HAVE SINNED -- Romans 3:23 “all” = universality of sin, therefore "you" have sinned. “Sinned” = "miss the mark." God's mark is perfection and absolute holiness (Matt.5:48; 1 Pet.1:16). "Fall short' definition of sin as not measuring up to God's standard. 1. Guilty sinners -- Yes, we stand guilty before the Judge of the universe as having violated His holy precepts and are deserving of the consequences he hands down. 2. Helpless sinners -- See Romans 3:10-12 “No one” is emphatic. "Righteous" = straight, therefore none righteous, but all are crooked, bent, perverse. “Understands” = according to Proverbs 14:12 man thinks he's O.K. but he's not. “Turned away” = compare Isaiah 53:6. ‘Unprofitable’ = useless, unlovely. “None does good” = can't do good to save ourselves. This point should be emphasized to those who think they can merit or work for God's salvation. 3. Condemned sinners -- See Romans 6:23a “Wages” = what we earn for- our sin = death. “Death” = physical, spiritual (separation or alienation from God), eternal (Rev.20:15 = Hell).
