3. Why an Older People's Network?
Start with the stats:
● 28.1% of UK population are aged over 55*
● 80% of everyone in the UK have used the
internet vs only 30% of over 75s**
● Internet access at home amongst over 65s is
less than half than that of people at working
age.
● 22% of internet users aged 75+ describe
themselves as 'not confident'***

4. Older people within UK online
centres network
● In our last survey 36% of our learners
were over 55
● 34% of learners aged 65+ had never
been online before coming to UK
online centres
● 85% of learners meet one or more of
our social exclusion criteria
● 30% of learners has some form of
disability
5. From this we have concluded that:
● that older people are an important group to
support
● that older people sometimes need
supporting in different ways
● that the centres who support older learners
need the right tools, resources and support
from us to do this well
● that centres who support older people would
benefit from coming together to exchange
ideas and hear from other experts who
champion older peoples' needs

● Made up of about 150 centres, 30 of
which have received some specialist
funding
● Specialist newsletter bi-monthly
● Older peoples' network events, focus
groups, webinars
● Bring in experts to support and
strengthen the work we do
● Specialist training & support
