Ban Cosmetic Use of Pesticides at Dr. Thomas A. Swift Elementary
1. Delegation to School District #34
Abbotsford, BC, Canada
BAN COSMETIC USE
OF PESTICIDES
JUNE 18, 2012
Gerda Peachey
2. Why do we poison schoolyards
to eradicate beautiful plants —
that some call weeds?
Sterile, barren edges (burned away
by Roundup and Casoron) replace
plants that all serve a purpose.
3. Weeds provide food and shelter
for myriads living creatures.
We use weeds for medicines,
cosmetics, dyes, fibres and foods.
Let’s educate our children, teach them
to see the beauty and utility of plants,
rather than risk their health
by spraying herbicides.
13. Dr. Thomas A. Swift Elementary
(Bacteria and fungi, the two categories having
most of the organic matter decomposers,
nitrogen fixers.......
from ‘Soils’ -Miller and Donahue)
14. Dr. Thomas A. Swift - Elementary
(Earthworms provide abundant and readily
available plant nutrients.)
15. Red Clover
(The amount of available nitrogen
that leguminous crops add
to the soil is phenomenal.
-from ‘Soils’-Miller and Donahue)
16. Dr. Thomas A. Swift Elementary, Abbotsford
(Earthworms feed on animal and plant
residues)
89. Abbotsford Traditional Middle School
(Many toxins added to soils can build up to
concentrations that become serious threats to
plant and animal health.)
90. Some plants that have recently been found to
have symbiotic relationships with various
Nitrogen-fixing bactertia......are GRASS species.
