The John Curtin Leadership Academy (JCLA) is a prestigious co-curricular leadership program delivered through Curtin University's Curtin Leadership Centre. The program runs over one semester and involves attending a leadership camp, workshops, completing a community project, and weekly commitments. Students develop leadership, teamwork, and community service skills while enhancing their university experience and employment prospects. Selection is based on leadership experience, community involvement, academic achievement, and commitment to the program.

a purposeful, collaborative, values-based
process that results in positive social

2. Program Outline
JCLA runs over one semester and involves:
• Attending a four day leadership camp
• Attending six leadership workshops
• Completion of a team-based community
project with a not-for-profit organisation
• Weekly commitment of approx 5 to 7 hrs
• JCLA Graduation Ceremony.
Community Project
Participants form small teams and
undertake a project for a not-for-profit
organisation. The projects have a significant
impact in the community and allow
students to gain practical experience in:
teamwork, project management, problem
solving, conflict resolution, effective decision
making, public speaking and self-awareness.
Participants present their achievements
and key learnings to an invited audience of
industry leaders at the JCLA Graduation.
Selection Criteria
Entry to JCLA is application based and
students must address the following
selection criteria:
• Leadership experience
• Community involvement
• Academic achievement
• Commitment to success.
Application
Applicants are required to complete an
online application form accessible via the
Curtin website. Shortlisted applicants will be
interviewed, and a maximum of 30 students
offered positions in the program.
Curtin Extra Certificate
Gain recognition of your participation in JCLA
by successfully completing all components of
the program.
There is no cost to participate in JCLA.
