Mapping a pathway: Addressing risk, detention and status in the
Mental Health Act 2001

This seminar will examine core issues arising from the review of the
Mental Health Act 2001. It is an opportunity to hear from national and
international experts, who will explore how Ireland can comply with its
obligations under international human rights law, specifically the UN
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

In particular it will focus on the criteria for detention under the Act, as
well as the definition of voluntary and involuntary patients.
