2. Internet means a global network providing a variety of information and
communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized
communication protocols.
It is a network in which any user connected through any device whether computer,
laptops or handheld, can get information or communicate with any of the other user
connected to the network.
Purpose
• Primary purpose is to have real time communication
• Send and receive all kinds of information such as text, graphics, voice, video, and
computer programs.

3. Devices Involved in Internet Networking
Various devices are used to connect network of a computer The most common
devices are:
1) Modem:- A modem is a device or program that enables a computer to
transmit data over, for example, telephone or cable lines. Computer
information is stored digitally, whereas information transmitted over
telephone lines is transmitted in the form of analog waves. A modem converts
between these two forms.
2) Routers:- A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between
computer networks. Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on the
Internet. A data packet is typically forwarded from one router to another
through the networks that constitute the internetwork until it reaches its
destination node.
3) Repeaters:- In telecommunications, a repeater is an electronic device that
receives a signal and retransmits it at a higher level or higher power, or onto
the other side of an obstruction, so that the signal can cover longer distances
4. 4) Bridges:- In telecommunication networks, a bridge is a product that connects a
local area network (LAN) to another local area network that uses the same
protocol
5) Hub:- A common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are
commonly used to connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports.
When a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to the other ports so that all
segments of the LAN can see all packets.
6) Servers:- A network server is a powerful computer connected to your business
network. Network servers have many functions and can form an important part of
your computer network. They are usually used for shared file storage and to run
centralized applications, such as your customer database.
7) Switch:- A network switch (also called switching hub, bridging hub, officially
MAC bridge) is a computer networking device that connects devices together on a
computer network, by using packet switching to receive, process and forward data
to the destination device.

5. Different Type of Internet connectivity
A) Wireline Connectivity
1) Dial Up connection
2) Broadband Connection
3) ISDN
4) Cable Connections
B) Wireless Connection
1) Dongle
2) USB
3) MiFI
4) Satellite
6. What Is Internet Leased Line
An Internet leased line is a premium internet connectivity product,
delivered over fiber normally, which is dedicated and provides
uncontended, symmetrical speeds
7. Basic features of ILL
Dedicated Line
The connection will not be shared with any of the other customer, will not be shared as happenes in a
broadband connection
Contention Ratio The speed will be dedicated for the download as well as upload i.e. 1:1
Bandwidth starts from 64 Kbps and reaches upto 1 Gbps
Last Mile Fiber , RF(Radio Frequency- UBR) and Microwave
Strict SLAs
Availability - Standard- 98.5 % and premium- 99.5%
Latency- country specific
Jitters- less than 5ms
Packet Loss- >1%
Static IP address
Total of 8 IP addresses for the customer out of which 3 Static IP are kept with the ISP for network
maintenance
MTTR Mean time to repair Category A - 4 hrs, B - 8 Hrs, C- 12 Hrs
NOC Network Operating center - Team which monitors the customer's network
Support
24 X 7 X 365
Dedicated account manager and service manager
8. Basic Difference between internet
mediums
Leased Line Broadband Dongle
Dedicated Line
Connection provided on a
dedicated network as the link is
not shared with other customer
Connection is provided on the
shared network as link is provided
from a shared network in the area
Connection is given on the wireless
medium and the connection
depends on the coverage area
Dedicated speed
Speed is dedicated for the
customer
Speed is dependent on the usage
on the share network
Speed is dependant on the
network availability on the device
Stability of the connection
Dedicated so a stable connection is
garrented
Frequent breakage is an common
issue
Connection breakage ia dependant
on the network availability
Contention ratio
1:1 as customer will get dedicated
upload as well as download
1::8 as speed always keeps on
fluctuating and the upload is
always low in comparison with the
download
1:8 similar as broadband
connection
Data Capping Data usage is unlimited
Always have a data capping for the
usage and speed goes down after
reaching the data limit
Works same as broadband
connection
IP address 8 Static IP provided Dynamic IP addresses provided Dynamic IP addresses provided
