3. A three hour battle took place on the 15th
December 1642 at Warcock Hill,
Westhoughton. The Royalists surrounded
a Parliamentary force, compelling them to
surrender.
It was an overwhelming defeat for the
Parliamentarians, 160 prisoners including
three Captains: - Captains Bradshaw &
Venables & Captain Risley Browne of
Brinsop; his Lieutenant was Peter
Rylands of Daisy Hill, later Parliamentary
Sequestrator for this area.
