Open Corporation Ranking,
“If only 10 out of 100 companies we contacted actually answer, we have
a problem!” It was stated by Gabriele Guglielmi, Project Coordinator of the
European Project: Open EWC (European Works Councils), a study aimed at
developing the first ranking of multinational companies, based on their care for
certain social and union issues: respect of workers’ rights, attention to diversity;
transparency and accessibility of data and information, sustainability including
the environmental one (www.opencorporation.org).
The issue of too many companies not answering, because they are hardly
accessible from the outside, or because they are not interested in the proposed
topics, is politically and institutionally relevant since it is happening within the
boundaries of a project funded by the European Commission, and has the
objective of measuring and comparing transparency and accessibility of data in
multinational companies.
To compare declarations with behaviours. The project team has prepared a data
gathering sheet, and during the December 2016- February 2017 period has
monitored the 100 companies included in the list that follows.

Based on publicly available information, e.g. company website, sustainability
balance, these questionnaires have been partially precompiled; the gathered
information are aimed at developing:
• Quantitative data: transparency index of TNC (transnational company)
• Qualitative data deriving from the typology of gathered data, to be
published in what will be the Open Corporation ranking.
The analysis, the answers received, the results gathered, the lists and rankings
that at least show the prevalent tendencies, are overlapping during this first test
phase, and will have a dual value when the first Open Corporation ranking will
be published in autumn 2017:
• Allow the project staff to stabilize process and methodology, also thanks
to the first answers received by the companies;
• Maintain a window open that will allow companies that still haven’t done
so to answer, and allow the rest to improve their performance.
The representatives of these one hundred companies, as those of the others that
will be gradually added by the project staff or that will offer themselves
volunteers to participate in the ranking, from the CEO to the CSR manager, the
HR manager or the Communication one, still have the opportunity to showcase
what their company is doing in terms of: respecting workers’ rights, attention to
diversity, sustainability and transparency and accessibility of data and
information.

“Se su 100 aziende interpellate, solo in 10 rispondono, abbiamo un
problema!” Lo afferma Gabriele Guglielmi Project Coordinator del Progetto
Europeo: Open EWC (European Works Council) uno studio che mira a redigere la
prima graduatoria delle imprese multinazionali, basata sulla loro attenzione a
una serie di temi sindacali e sociali: rispetto dei diritti dei lavoratori, attenzione
per le diversità; trasparenza e accessibilità di dati e informazioni, sostenibilità
anche ambientale (www.opencorporation.org)
Il problema delle troppe aziende che non stanno rispondendo, vuoi perché hanno
canali di contatto scarsamente accessibili dall’esterno, vuoi perché non
interessate ai temi proposti, assume una rilevanza politica e istituzionale poiché
ciò avviene nel contesto di un progetto co-finanziato dalla Commissione Europea
che ha l’obiettivo di misurare e comparare trasparenza e accessibilità dei dati
nelle imprese multinazionali.
Per confrontare le dichiarazioni con i comportamenti, il team di progetto ha
predisposto una scheda di rilevazione dei dati, e nel periodo dicembre 2016
febbraio 2017 ha monitorato le 100 imprese sotto-elencate.
Sulla base delle informazioni reperibili pubblicamente: es. sito internet aziendale,
bilancio di sostenibilità, ha svolto la pre-compilazione di tali schede; le
informazioni raccolte sono finalizzate a sviluppare:
• un dato quantitativo: l'indice di trasparenza della TNC (Transnational
company)
• un dato qualitativo derivante dalla tipologia dei dati rilevati, per la
pubblicazione di un primo test di quello che sarà Ranking Open
Corporation.

Le analisi, le risposte ottenute, i risultati rilevati, gli elenchi e le graduatorie che
indicano, se non un dato certo, almeno le tendenze, in questa “fase test” si
stanno via via sovrapponendo, e, in vista della pubblicazione del “Primo Ranking
Open Corporation” prevista per l’autunno 2017, assumono una doppia valenza:
• consentono allo staff di progetto di assestare sia il processo che la
metodologia, anche grazie alle prime risposte ricevute dalle imprese;
• mantengono aperta una finestra che consentirà alle aziende che ancora
non lo avessero fatto, di rispondere, e a tutte di migliorare la propria
performance.
I rappresentanti di queste cento aziende, come delle altre che man mano
saranno aggiunte dallo staff di progetto o si autocandideranno per partecipare al
ranking, dal CEO al Responsabile CSR, dal Responsabile delle risorse umane a
quello della Comunicazione, continuano ad avere l’opportunità di valorizzare
quanto l’azienda sta facendo in materia di: rispetto dei diritti dei lavoratori,
attenzione per le diversità; trasparenza e accessibilità di dati e informazioni,
sostenibilità.
