The document discusses Winter Veil, the World of Warcraft equivalent of Christmas. It notes that the Auction House is important for finding gifts during this time, but prices are often too high. The solution proposed is to launch a limited-time Winter Wish Auction House with greatly reduced prices, making gifts affordable. It will also include some random "knockoff" items for humor. This pop-up shop and its unusual items have potential to become popular streaming and social media content during the gift-giving season.

2. The Winter Veil
The context
Christmas is most de
fi
nitely not exclusive to the ”real world”.
Winter Veil is the World of Warcraft counterpart of Christmas.
A long lived tradition, rich in festivities that culminates with the
opening of presents under the Christmas trees in Ironforge and
Orgrimmar, the two largest cities in Azeroth.
Adventurers from all over the realm, and all over the world,
gather to trade gifts, break bread and drink dwarven ale.
Winters Veil is a time where gamers, who for any reason might
prefer to celebrate the holidays online, can experience
Christmas joy with their brothers and sisters in arms.
The citizens of Azeroth usually pop by the local Auction House

3. The Auction House
The context
The Auction House is a wonderful in-game trading platform, where all Azeroth’s citizens can buy and sell
all kinds of strange, fun and magical items. Everything from legendary
fl
aming swords of fallen god-kings,
to dried cheezes for long journeys to the Blackrock Mountains. Most cities in the realm have their own
Auction House, and they’re all connected, which in turn connects the many millions of adventurers that
roam the World of Warcraft.
THE CLASSIC AUCTION HOUSE
4. The auction house is in other words hugely important during
the Christmas season. But there is an issue. It’s unreasonably
expensive.
Most people do not have the gold to match the volatile and
aggressive in game market. Which makes it very dif
fi
cult to buy
Christmas gifts for friends and family without breaking bank.
Why is it that a magical world, that has everything one could
wish for, lacks a cheap and well sorted commerce platform,
where the players can buy the most amazing gifts for a more
reasonable price?
Why isn’t there a Wish in the World of Warcraft? There surely is
a demand.
THERE’S THE DEMAND
The Winter Wish
The problem
5. The Winter Wish
The solution
Wish is going to answer that demand through a
collaboration campaign, together with the World of
Warcraft developers, where they’re going to provide a
new way for the adventures of Azeroth to spend their
gold.
They’re basically launching a new shopping platform, in
the World of Warcraft, for a limited period, called The
Winter Wish Auction House.
The new in-game retailer will be found in any of the
bigger cities in the realm, during the Winter Veil Season.

6. The Winter Wish
The thing
In the Winter Wish Auction House, the players will be able to purchase all kinds of awesome gifts, for just a few
gold coins. Perhaps the Ballista of Buried Kings (an epic two-handed crossbow with a 45.5 DPS stat) for 79
gold coins instead of 68 000 gold coins? Or maybe a Fate-Sewn Shawl (a very rare cape, with a 42 Mastery
stat and a Prismatic Socket slot) for 35 gold coins instead of 30 618 gold coins? The players will be able to
show their friends the appreciation they deserve, for just a fraction of the standard Auction House prices.
”WOW, WHAT A GREAT PRICE! I MIGHT JUST BUY TEN!”

7. The Winter Wish
The twist
To add some humour and self awareness to the campaign,
the Winter Wish Auction House will also provide some of the
oddities that one might encounter on the IRL Wish platform.
The players might buy a legendary sword, which ends up
being a ”knockoff”, and therefore has worse stats than the
genuine item. Or they might get recommended a bunch of
cool stuff that they don’t really need.
The humour is de
fi
nitely going to go down well with the
gaming community, who appreciates comedy, and it shows
that Wish has a certain level of self-distance and personality,
making them appear more engageable and personable.
The random ”counterfeit” items will in essence become
collectibles, with unique names and properties, that players
are going to actively try to get, since they will be rare and
available only for a limited time.

8. The Spread
The PR
Gaming and shopping goes hand in hand, which can be observed
in a lot of the Twitch and Youtube content these last couple of
years. Viewers really enjoy watching their favourite streamers and
content creators shop for stuff, wether it’s online or IRL.
And the random collectibles will turn the shopping into a game,
not unlike the loot-box system found in other games. The element
of surprise, the unexpected crossover, and the unique items will
make great content for all of the World of Warcraft streamers.
Gaming channels draw a huge audience from all over the world –
even people who doesn’t play the games.
