Founded in 1988, Maryland-based Forrester
Construction provides services ranging from
preconstruction to general contracting and design.
One of Forrester Construction’s most notable
accomplishments is the American Trail, the newest
exhibit at the National Zoo in Washington, DC.
On Labor Day in 2012, the National Zoo unveiled
the American Trail exhibit to the public. The $42million project entailed the renovation of paths and
domiciles for animals.

The American Trail focuses on animals that have
been rescued and that are kept in conservation for
their protection.
Those animals include bald eagles, gray wolves, sea
lions, and seals.
The trail’s seals and sea lions are the stars of the
exhibit.
Guests take seats in an amphitheater to watch
presentations put on by keepers.

Animals dwell in a habitat modeled after the
California coastline.
As of the exhibit’s grand opening, the National Zoo
had installed two pools—one was able to hold
300,000 gallons of water and the other had a
capacity of up to 150,000 gallons.
One of the most fascinating features of the
American Trail is a den built by resident beavers.
The natural den replaces an artificial dwelling that
was installed before the renovations.
