This document provides 10 rules for new employees to follow at their first job out of college. The rules include starting to speak up rather than staying silent, learning something new every day and teaching others, networking and building rapport by finding a mentor, protecting yourself from exploitation, going above and beyond by looking for extra work, actively participating in events, building a personal brand, managing your time effectively, knowing the company hierarchy, and staying healthy. An additional bonus rule is to start investing and leverage the power of compounding returns.

• Master the Technology and Processes
• Teach the next batch
• “Observe nature. Growth is a habit”
5. RULE-3 : NETWORK AND BUILD RAPPORT
• Find a Mentor
• Move with Competent Seniors
• “Knowing who can help is more important than knowing the
answer”
6. RULE-4 : PROTECT YOURSELF
• Never give in to exploitation
• Know the Law
• “People will treat you the way you allow them to”
7. RULE-5 : GO ABOVE AND BEYOND
• Look for additional opportunities to help
• Take some load off seniors, Go the extra mile!
• Stay away from mediocre minds
• “Do things which no one is willing to do. There is no competition
there”
8. RULE-6 : ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE
• Showcase your other skills
• Actively participate in competitions and events
• “Remember, you are much more than an engineer”
9. RULE-7 : BUILD A BRAND
• Start building a personal brand
• Build connections and participate
• “It takes intelligence to appreciate intelligence”
10. RULE-8 : TIME MANAGEMENT
• Efficiency & Effectiveness
• Reduce distractions and Focus – build habits!
• “If you take care of minutes, projects will take care of themselves”
11. RULE-9 : KNOW THE HIERARCHY
• Who is Who of the company
• Identify them and follow them on Social Media
• “It is very difficult for senior management to know you. But it is
easy for you to know them”
