As the world continues to become interconnected, people of
different backgrounds, cultures and faiths are expected to
live and be accommodating of each other. In workplaces and
communities, there is an opportunity for people to work to-
gether towards building a society that displays the values of
unity, openness, trust and mutual respect. Doing so requires
individuals to express their faiths and beliefs with integrity.

3. When people of different beliefs come
together to talk about matters of faith,
the discussion has to be done with as
much honesty and sensitivity as pos-
sible. This means that it’s just as im-
portant to listen as it is to speak about
one’s own beliefs. People should also
strive not to misrepresent or disparage
other people’s faiths, and to correct any
misunderstandings in any instances
where this occurs. In a setting where
people from different faiths have to
live or work together, there has to be a
responsibility among all to respect the
religious beliefs that are represented.
In a multi-faith society, individuals will
wish to have their views understood
and respected. There are those that will
want to persuade others to embrace
their faith, but a person’s desire to be
left alone or pose a differing opinion
has to be respected.
