Gruppo Cividale’s origins can be traced back to Acciaieria
Fonderia Cividale S.p.A. which started its activity at the end
of the 1960s in the plant located in Cividale del Friuli, in the
province of Udine, in the north eastern part of Italy, producing
steel billets for lamination and manganese steel castings.
Startingin1977AcciaieriaFonderiaCividalebeganachallenging
development programme, carried out both for the internal lines
and through a process of acquisition in the metallurgic field
and in particular in the steel and forged foundry sector, as well
as in various areas of the components sector, such as valves
and pumps production and machining.
Several companies both in Italy and abroad were taken over
and were combined with existing companies which were
completely revamped.

Il Gruppo Cividale trae le sua origine dall’Acciaieria Fonderia Cividale S.p.A.,
che ha iniziato la sua attività alla fine degli anni ’60 nello stabilimento di
Cividale del Friuli in provincia di Udine, producendo billette in acciai comuni
per la laminazione e fusioni in acciai al manganese.
A partire dal 1977 l’Acciaieria Fonderia Cividale iniziò un impegnativo
programma di sviluppo, realizzato sia per linee interne che attraverso un
processo di acquisizioni nel comparto
metallurgico ed in particolare nei settori della fonderia di acciaio e della forgia,
nonché in alcuni settori della componentistica, come quelli della produzione
di valvole e di pompe, e delle lavorazioni meccaniche.
Numerose sono state le aziende acquistate in Italia ed all’estero, che sono
andate ad aggiungersi ad aziende costruite ex novo.

Through an uninterrupted process of productive rationalisation
and of plant engineering, also obtained with the dismantling of
companies and the closing down of plants, Gruppo Cividale has
gradually focused its interest on core-business, becoming one of the
most important producers in Europe in the field of steel and cast iron
foundry together with the forge sector.
The process of development and rationalisation of Gruppo Cividale’s
activities has been continued with the realisation of an important
investment plan in machinery and in high technology plant,
consolidating in particular Gruppo Cividale’s leadership in the
foundry field.
Today the main activity of the Group is represented by the production
of forged components and castings in special steel and cast iron,
supplied for the most part in a rough-machined and finish-machined.
The casting condition production ranges from micro-castings of a
few grams, to castings of 80 Tons per unit, covering all the different
steel type required on the market, from stainless steel to duplex and
up to super-duplex, with a specific specialisation in castings with a
high internal integrity as far as the forged products are concerned
the maximum weight can reach 20 Tons per unit.
The main final outlets of production are the energy, the petrochemical
and plant engineering fields, the iron and steel, the oil-producing
and the shipbuilding industries.
Attraverso un’azione continua di razionalizzazione produttiva ed impiantistica il Gruppo Cividale
si è progressivamente concentrato sul suo core-business, diventando uno dei principali produttori
a livello europeo nel settore della fonderia di acciaio e di ghisa e nel settore della forgia.
L’azione di sviluppo e razionalizzazione delle attività del Gruppo Cividale è continuata con
la realizzazione di un’importante programma di investimenti in macchinari ed in impianti
tecnologicamente avanzati, che ha consentito di consolidare in particolare la leadership del
Gruppo Cividale nel settore della fonderia.
L’attività caratteristica principale è oggi rappresentata dalla produzione di componenti fucinati e
fusi in acciai speciali e ghisa, forniti per la gran parte sgrossati e finiti di lavorazione meccanica.
La gamma produttiva per le fusioni va dai pochi grammi dei getti microfusi fino alle 80
tonnellate di peso unitario, coprendo tutte le diverse tipologie di acciai richieste dal mercato,
dall’inossidabile ai duplex e fino ai superduplex, con una specifica specializzazione nei getti ad
alta integrità interna; mentre per i fucinati il peso massimo unitario raggiunge le 20 tonnellate.
I principali settori finali di sbocco della produzione risultano essere l’energetico, il petrolchimico,
l’impiantistico, il siderurgico, il petrolifero, e quello della cantieristica navale.

In particular in the energy field the products cover the basic components
necessary for the energy production plants, such as hydroelectric power,
thermoelectric steam and gas, and nuclear power stations and wind farms.
Gruppo Cividale’s reliability and timely delivery benefit from the flexibility of
production granted by the Group of companies operating directly, not only in the
main productive founding and forging activities, but also in the complementary
machining activities, such as finish-machining, core box-making and of pattern
construction.
Specifically for the forge industry, the steel ingots are produced by a vacuum
process at Gruppo Cividale premises. As the steel ingots constitute the base
material for the production of forgings, to produce them within ourgroup allows
us to considerably reduce the delivery times of our forgings.
Gruppo Cividale is the Italian leader in the field of the steel casting production
and it is amongst the primary producers in Europe.
Gruppo Cividale of which, Cividale S.p.A. is the leading company, is articulated
in different companies and carries out its activity in its various plants in Friuli
Venezia Giulia and in Veneto.
During the course of the year 2006 Gruppo Cividale acquired the control of
ZML Industries S.p.A. in Maniago, in the province of Pordenone, operating in
the cast iron foundry field with automated plants for die-casting in aluminium
and for the copper-coated wire drawing/enamelling of copper-coated wire.
During 2013 Gruppo Cividale started with a new steel foundry in Chelyabinsk,
Russia and with a fletting and grinding plant in Zavidovici, Bosnia and
Herzegovina, starting in this way the internationalization process of the Group.
In particolare nel settore energetico, i prodotti riguardano componenti base per gli impianti di
produzione di energia elettrica, quali centrali idroelettriche, termoelettriche a vapore ed a gas,
termonucleari ed eoliche.
L’affidabilità e la tempestività delle consegne da parte delle aziende del Gruppo Cividale può
beneficiare della flessibilità produttiva consentita dalla presenza, all’interno del Gruppo Cividale
stesso, di aziende operanti direttamente, oltre che nelle attività produttive principali di fonderia
e di forgia, anche nelle lavorazioni complementari di finitura, di lavorazione meccanica,
di animisteria e di modellisteria.
In particolare nel settore dei fucinati, i lingotti in acciai speciali, che costituiscono il prodotto base
di partenza, vengono prodotti con processo sottovuoto nello stabilimento di Cividale del Friuli (Ud),
garantendo così la possibilità di ridurre notevolmente i tempi di consegna dei nostri forgiati.
Nel settore della produzione di getti in acciaio, il Gruppo Cividale è leader italiano e si colloca tra
i primi produttori a livello europeo.
Il Gruppo, la cui attività è coordinata dalla holding Cividale S.p.A. è articolato in diverse società
operative e svolge la sua attività in vari stabilimenti in Friuli Venezia – Giulia ed in Veneto.
Nel corso dell’esercizio 2006 il Gruppo Cividale ha acquisito il controllo della Zml Industries
S.p.A. di Maniago (Pn), operante nel settore della fonderia di ghisa da impianti automatici, della
presso fusione in alluminio e della trafilatura/smaltatura di filo di rame. Nel corso del 2013 il
Gruppo Cividale ha avviato una nuova fonderia di acciaio in Russia nella regione di Chelyabinsk,
oltre ad un centro di finitura a Zavidovici in Bosnia Erzegovina, iniziando così il proprio processo
di internazionalizzazione.

On the base of Gruppo Cividale’s internal business organization,
it is possible to offer to the customers rough as well as finished-
machined solutions on all kinds of steel types-from carbon steel
to the ones with a low carbon content, from the highalloys and
stainless steel to the duplex and super duplex steels.
Another of Gruppo Cividale’s strenghts is stretching production
from just a few kilograms up to 80 Tons. Parallel to Gruppo
Cividale’s core business-the production of steel castings and to
a lesser extend cast iron castings-during the last few years the
company has focused on differentiating the range of production
by including the production of special steel ingots for the
forging sector, forged products, all the way to the production of
series cast iron items and die-casting aluminum parts to meet
the automotive and the domestic appliance markets on top
of the needs generated by the series production of drawn and
enamelled copper wire.

fusi sgrossati o finiti di lavorazione meccanica per
ogni tipo di applicazione e in tutta la gamma di

Un altro punto di forza del Gruppo è quello di poter
fornire getti di tutte le gamme di peso, dai pochi kg
fino a 80 tonnellate.
Parallelamente al core business storico del Gruppo,
rappresentato dalla produzione di getti fusi in acciaio
e, in misura minore, in ghisa, negli ultimi anni si è
evidenziata una forte spinta alla diversificazione, con
l’entrata in nuovi settori: da quello della produzione
di lingotti da forgia in acciai speciali, a quello dei
fucinati e fino a quelli della produzione in serie di
getti in ghisa e pressofusi in alluminio per i mercati
automotive e dell’elettrodomestico oltre che a quello
della produzione in serie del filo di rame trafilato e
smaltato.

The graph shows the position of our Group foundries on the market. Each of them covers
a specific weight and casting type range, ensuring the customer a wide range of products
stretching from items weighting just a few kilograms all the way up to 80 Tons castings.
Production is made possible through state-of-the-art technology and several molding procedure
types - sand moulding (handmade and automatic), ceramic- and lost-wax molding.
The production of cast-iron castings mainly takes place at our foundry Acciaieria Fonderia
Cividale in Cividale del Friuli, Udine.
Il grafico mostra come siano collocate sul mercato le fonderie del Gruppo: ogni azienda copre un range di
peso dei getti prodotti ben definito e che si colloca in un quadro in cui il Gruppo è in grado di fornire ai

Pattern engineering> In order to produce top-quality castings, it is fundamental that
the pattern engineering stage fully meets the geometrical, dimensional and soundness
requirements.
A close tie between the foundry and the pattern-shop is essential to the assure
the quality of the product. Gruppo Cividale has a centralised pattern-shop able to
manufacture new patterns in wood, resin and polystyrene using five axes machining.
Casting methods tooling > The pattern is adjusted at this stage in its best possible
configuration for pouring. The simulation technical outcome of the solidification
process is applied.
Progettazione del modello > Al fine di produrre getti di alta qualità è di fondamentale
importanza che lo stadio di progettazione del modello soddisfi pienamente le specifiche
geometriche, dimensionali e qualitative richieste.
Al fine di assicurare la qualità del prodotto è di fondamentale importanza un forte legame tra
fonderia e modellista. Il Gruppo Cividale ha al suo interno una modellisteria in grado, mediante
l’utilizzo di macchina a cinque assi, di fabbricare nuovi modelli in legno, resina e polistirolo.
Metododifusione>In questa fase il modello viene progettato nella sua migliore configurazione
possibile al fine di ottimizzare al meglio la fase di colata.
È utilizzata la simulazione tecnica come risultante del processo di solidificazione.

Solidification simulation supported by Magmasoft and Procast software
>The long-term and wide experience of our technical staff is supported by high-tech
software. The computer-aided simulation plays a big role in the task of locating and making
any proper corrections in advance of the critical zones during solidification.
The simulation of the solidification process performed through finished elements allows
us to optimise the thermo-fluid dynamics criteria in order to obtain top-grade soundness
castings.

Moulding > The choice between both three kinds of moulding (sand, ceramic and

Fettling, Grinding and Heat Treatment > Finishing operations are done only by
highly skilled employees.
Our heat treatment equipment is made of 18 electronically controlled ovens;
max sizes are 6.000 x 10.000 x 5.000 mm and top temperature is 1.300°C.
Our heat treatments, calibrated according to UNI EN ISO 10423 and API 6A,
are done in forced air, water, water – oil emulsion and oil.
Sbavatura, Molatura e Trattamenti Termici > Le diverse operazioni di finitura sono
condotte da personale altamente qualificato.
In particolare i trattamenti termici vengono eseguiti mediante l’utilizzo di 18 forni di trattamento
termico a metano; le dimensioni massime trattabili sono di 6.000 x 10.000 x 5.000 mm, mentre
la temperatura massima è di 1.300°C.
I nostri trattamenti termici, di tempra in aria, acqua, emulsione acqua - olio ed olio, sono omologati
alle norme UNI EN ISO 10423 e API 6A.

Aluminium Die-Casting Division
Zml Aluminium can supply die-cast aluminium casts up to 20 kg, ready to mount, with particular attention to the
car industry sector. Production: 11.000 tons/year.
Grey Cast Iron Casting Division
Zml Cast Iron boasts a good production capacity, allowing it to supply grey and modular cast iron
with weight up to 20 kg for use in both the electrical household appliance industry and in the car sector.
Production: 80.000 tons/year.
Magnet Wire Division (copper and aluminium)
Zml Copper Wire backs the needs of its Customers by collaborating closely with the raw material suppliers and
through constant research to find ways of improving the mechanical properties of the bare conductor. Production:
24.000 tons/year copper and 1.000 tons/year aluminium.
Divisione Pressofusione in Alluminio
Zml Aluminium è in grado di fornire getti in alluminio pressofuso fino a 20 kg,
pronti per il montaggio, con grande attenzione al settore dell’industria automobilistica.
La produzione annuale è di 11.000 tonnellate.
Divisione Fonderia di Ghisa Grigia
Zml Cast Iron ha una capacità produttiva che le permette di fornire fusioni in ghisa
grigia e sferoidale fino a 20 kg destinate all’industria dell’elettrodomestico e al settore automotive.
La produzione annuale è di 80.000 tonnellate.
Divisione trafilatura Filo di Rame Smaltato (rame e alluminio)
Zml Copper Wire supporta le esigenze dei propri Clienti attraverso una stretta
collaborazione con i fornitori della materia prima, alla continua ricerca del miglioramento delle
caratteristiche meccaniche del conduttore nudo.
La produzione annuale è di 24.000 tonnellate rame e 1.000 tonnellate alluminio.
