The Ernst Mach scholarship worldwide is aimed at young researchers and university
lecturers of all disciplines who study or do research outside of Austria and would like to
do a research project in Austria.

Ernst Mach follow-up grant (EZA)
The Ernst Mach follow-up grant (EZA) is a program for former grant holders from non-
European developing countries. People who research or teach at a university in a

GmbH can apply.

3. The Ernst Mach grant ASEA-UNINET within the framework of the ASEAN-European
Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET) enables students and researchers to stay
in Austria. The target group are PhD students, postdocs and lecturers at ASEA-UNINET
member institutions.

The Franz Werfel scholarship is aimed at young university teachers of German studies

up care is possible once twelve months of the scholarship have been completed.

Richard Plaschka Scholarship
The Richard Plaschka PostDoc grant is aimed at researchers in historical sciences who
focus on Austrian history. The duration of the scholarship is four to twelve months, an
extension to 18 months is possible. Admission to follow-up care is possible once twelve
months of the scholarship have been completed.

Scholarships from the scholarship foundation of the Republic of Austria
The scholarships of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria are aimed
at descendants of forced laborers under the NS regime or citizens of countries that
suffered particularly from the NS regime . Students and scientists can apply for a
research stay.
4. No scholarships are awarded for a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in Austria, for
summer courses, language courses, traineeships or internships.

from Ukraine
Ernst Mach Scholarship - Ukraine
The Ernst Mach-Ukraine special scholarship program supports Ukrainian students in
continuing their studies in Austria. The scholarship is aimed both at Ukrainian students
who are already studying regularly at an Austrian university and at students, scientists
and researchers from Ukraine who would like to continue their studies or projects here.
Special grant for artists
With this special funding, fleeing Ukrainian artists are to be supported quickly and
specifically by providing financial resources both in the form of working grants and
project funding, thus ensuring safe working and living in Austria. In particular, this should
also create a framework for networking and exchange with the art and culture scene in
Austria.
Funding within the framework of Erasmus+ and the ESK
Ongoing Erasmus+ mobility and cooperation projects can use free, unused project funds
for activities related to the Ukraine war. It should be noted that the originally set goals of
the projects are fulfilled in any case. The additional measures should in any case have
an Erasmus+ or ESK reference.
ÖH emergency aid package - Ukraine
In order to help students affected by the war, there is the possibility of receiving
immediate financial aid of up to €1,000 per person from the ÖH. Anyone who has
Ukrainian or Russian citizenship or who can prove that they have been financed by
relatives from both countries can apply for funding.
ÖAW - JESH-Ukraine emergency call
The Austrian Academy of Sciences is offering an emergency call for applications from
Ukrainian researchers as part of its academic mobility program “Joint Excellence in
Science and Humanities” (JESH). The aim of the special call JESH-Ukraine is to support
5. Ukrainian scientists who had/have to leave their country in temporarily carrying out a
scientific project at an Austrian research institution.
ESI - Special Research Fellowship for Ukrainian Scientists (Ukraine)
Ukrainian scientist in the fields of mathematics and physics with a PhD who are
affiliated with a research institution in the Ukraine. Stays of up to 4 months at the ESI are
possible. The financial support provided by the ESI consists of a daily allowance of 80
EUR for each day of the stay. Fellows will have a working place at the ESI in Vienna with
access to the libraries of mathematics and physics of the University of Vienna.
FWF Crisis Support for Researchers from Ukraine
This measure serves to provide support for Ukrainian researchers who have fled Ukraine
or who are unable to return to Ukraine because of the war. These persons may be
employed in ongoing FWF projects for a maximum of 12 months on the basis of
requests for additional funding.
Non-Residential Solidarity Fellowship for Ukraine (IWM and HURI)
These fellowships are open to:
• Ukrainian scholars in the humanities and social sciences who hold a PhD or its
equivalent at the time of application
• Ukrainian writers, artists, and public intellectuals whose work contributes to a
deeper international understanding of Ukrainian society
