7. What is a Social Protection Floor?
It is a responsibility of all countries, and provides for
non-contributory, rights-based access to an
integrated offering of essential social services,
retraining and basic income security for all –
especially those at risk (children, the ill, elderly,
disabled & those unemployed).
8. 3KEYS PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
To build a shared knowledge base on Social Protection Floors in Africa and to provide a
space for reflection and exchange for you to be able to return to your individual contexts
and:
1. Appreciate the complexity and interdependence of your current SP situation when
assessing your needs.
2. Envisage solutions and possibilities for your context based on your ‘mind shifts’ and
experiences from similar contexts.
3. Conclude what and how you want to change on your personal leadership &
transformation journey in SP.
9. LEADERSHIP AND TRANSFORMATION
Social systems are not inert and static machines which can be
subject to technical tinkering. However, many interventions in social
protection seem to be assuming that is so.
10. LEADERSHIP AND TRANSFORMATION
Countries need reflective practitioners that craft solutions to complex emerging
problems. This course aims to help practitioners in their work situations to reframe
difficulties into solvable problems and learn from each cumulative success and tackling
ever complex representations of recurrent problems.
Training for practice can only provide basic
knowledge, tools and methods and meta skills (such
as learning to learn, use experience and tapping into
informal knowledge) to apply and exercise in daily
work and to enhance their professional practice. True
learning actually occurs as learners do practice their
craft; one can teach a potter but he will only learn by
practicing, similarly a social worker will not know his
craft by reading procedures and regulations or norms
of his field
