Paris in the Spring
In Style
What was it about the style of Paris that had everybody falling in love with the city? I had
never been, but wanted to find out.
I wrote a “wish list”, for a Paris trip I intended to take on the back of a 21st birthday card given to
me for my birthday earlier this year.
The list read:
Paris in the Spring.
Baguettes.
Midnight at the Eiffel Tower.
Chocolate Croissants.
French Champagne & a Paris Flower Garden.
Months later, after my move from Sydney to Florence to pursue my studies in Design, the list re-appeared. I was
sitting on the floor of my new, tiny, traditional Italian apartment looking through the black box of memories I had
brought with me to remind me of home. Within the box were photographs, old notes, videos, gifts from friends and
the stack of birthday cards bound in a rubber band. The Paris list was amongst the stack, so naturally I picked it out
and re-read over my wish list.
There was no escaping the current, cold, realities of the European winter that was going on just outside my window,
but the inspired thought of a Parisian weekend away in the Springtime sounded like the perfect event to get me
through the following months.
“Paris is always a good idea”. So after suggesting the idea to my Swedish travel friend,
and after two coffee’s in a cozy Florentine cafe, we had two tickets booked on a flight to
Paris in the Spring!
The few months went quickly and we were quickly on our way to see the Fashion capital.
I imagine everyone who has been, remembers their first trip to Paris, and I was excited
to be among the many around the world who have had their hearts famously captured by
the charm of the city.
With a strong intention to discover the true style of the city, I made a a conscious effort
to read up on the words of stylish travellers who had come before me, and now existed
in the form of published columnists for glossy magazines. The writers poured out
their insights from their own experiences to deliver concise articles providing inside
knowledge to first time travellers such as myself, with flawless instructions on “How to
live an effortlessly chic weekend in Paris.”

So perhaps defining the style of Paris is not something that should

perhaps the mystery of cities style is best, left un-defined for the

BBIFF 2016Byron Bay International Fashion Festival
Backstage with the Kylie’s Professional Makeup team
at the 2016 Byron Bay International Fashion Festival
The Byron Bay International Fashion Festival is in its
second year and the challenge to outdo its impressive
debut was before it. Event organiser, Clint Hurrell
didn’t disappoint and this year’s event blew the
minds of the large crowd attending. The Byron Bay
International Fashion festival is destined to become an
important date on the fashion calendar for emerging
labels and international brands.
This year’s event showcased 21 local, national
and international brands in a series of shows in a
spectacular Beach side setting. The festival was hosted
by the brand new five-star beach resort “Elements” Its
lush gardens, breath-taking pools and private beach
provided a spectacular backdrop to the fashions on
display.
2015 Make up sponsor Kylie Eustace has again returned
to Byron Bays Fashion Festival with her Talented team
of Mineral Goddess Artists and her stunning and very
versatile Mineral Makeup. This year the day-into-
night program of indoor and outdoor runway shows
presented everything from swimwear to lingerie, casual
and resort to evening wear. For such a big day and
varied styles, four different makeup looks were needed
to cover the day
Kylies team of experienced event artists and emerging
artists swung into action from 11am with the first
makeup look for swim - the summer girl look! A
fresh and healthy feel was needed so a natural, very
soft makeup was necessary. A finely applied mineral
foundation was dusted on and minimal setting powder
was used only on the T-zone. Extra highlighting was
applied to the high points of the face and was key to
the fresh look. Brows were only filled where needed and
were just, gently brushed. Lips were natural, with only a
smear of clear Lip-gloss.
For the second look we went for a brown lip. Brown
lips have made a big comeback this year so the models
got to rock a 90s style mocha-chocolate lip. Eyes were
soft and light, with a wash of a pearly white eyeshadow
across the mobile lid and a dust of soft warm brown
shadow across the eye socket to give definition. The
skin was kept looking fresh and dewy.
The third look, we built-up on our makeup
from our previous look with a little bit of Glam.
Adding a beautiful golden bronzed eyelid and
aubergine-purple lip provided a fairly simple
but striking change.
Lastly, A different look for the final ‘Black show’
was not planned. Time only really allowed for a
quick garment change and touch-ups however
the models in their excitement sped through
their change and with our own adrenaline still
running high, a last minute decision was made
and the models were given a glossy back eyelid
and smudged black lipstick, blended in to their
current lip. They quickly transformed into Glam
- with a touch of gothic chic.
Fashion event veteran, Leon Kyriacou with his
equally excited all-star Hair team also pounced
on the models hair to, ‘joosh it up’ for their
finale.
As the last model was getting the final touches
the most perilous part of the backstage process
began. Champagne erupted and corks suddenly
started ricocheting off ceilings and walls. A
cheer went up and fist-pumps, hugs and high
fives were enthusiastically exchanged. The
whole backstage team rejoiced in a job well
done!
Elements at Byron was a stunning venue and
a perfect stylish fit for the festival. The crowds
arrived and a magnificent fashion event was
staged. With a further two years already inked
in, a new wave of fashion truly is surging over
Byron Bay.

  • 53. Paris in the Spring In Style
  • 54. What was it about the style of Paris that had everybody falling in love with the city? I had never been, but wanted to find out. I wrote a “wish list”, for a Paris trip I intended to take on the back of a 21st birthday card given to me for my birthday earlier this year. The list read: Paris in the Spring. Baguettes. Midnight at the Eiffel Tower. Chocolate Croissants. French Champagne & a Paris Flower Garden.
  • 55. Months later, after my move from Sydney to Florence to pursue my studies in Design, the list re-appeared. I was sitting on the floor of my new, tiny, traditional Italian apartment looking through the black box of memories I had brought with me to remind me of home. Within the box were photographs, old notes, videos, gifts from friends and the stack of birthday cards bound in a rubber band. The Paris list was amongst the stack, so naturally I picked it out and re-read over my wish list. There was no escaping the current, cold, realities of the European winter that was going on just outside my window, but the inspired thought of a Parisian weekend away in the Springtime sounded like the perfect event to get me through the following months.
  • 56.
  • 57. “Paris is always a good idea”. So after suggesting the idea to my Swedish travel friend, and after two coffee’s in a cozy Florentine cafe, we had two tickets booked on a flight to Paris in the Spring! The few months went quickly and we were quickly on our way to see the Fashion capital. I imagine everyone who has been, remembers their first trip to Paris, and I was excited to be among the many around the world who have had their hearts famously captured by the charm of the city. With a strong intention to discover the true style of the city, I made a a conscious effort to read up on the words of stylish travellers who had come before me, and now existed in the form of published columnists for glossy magazines. The writers poured out their insights from their own experiences to deliver concise articles providing inside knowledge to first time travellers such as myself, with flawless instructions on “How to live an effortlessly chic weekend in Paris.”

  • 61. The Authors of book, “How to Be Parisian” suggested, “Yes, the Parisian often comes from somewhere else. She wasn’t born in Paris, but she’s reborn there.” So perhaps defining the style of Paris is not something that should be easily done. The style is born and re-born by all Parisians and perhaps the mystery of cities style is best, left un-defined for the masses, but instead, individually experienced and individually defined. - Annika Mae

Backstage with the Kylie’s Professional Makeup team at the 2016 Byron Bay International Fashion Festival The Byron Bay International Fashion Festival is in its second year and the challenge to outdo its impressive debut was before it. Event organiser, Clint Hurrell didn’t disappoint and this year’s event blew the minds of the large crowd attending. The Byron Bay International Fashion festival is destined to become an important date on the fashion calendar for emerging labels and international brands. This year’s event showcased 21 local, national and international brands in a series of shows in a spectacular Beach side setting. The festival was hosted by the brand new five-star beach resort “Elements” Its lush gardens, breath-taking pools and private beach provided a spectacular backdrop to the fashions on display. 2015 Make up sponsor Kylie Eustace has again returned to Byron Bays Fashion Festival with her Talented team of Mineral Goddess Artists and her stunning and very versatile Mineral Makeup. This year the day-into- night program of indoor and outdoor runway shows presented everything from swimwear to lingerie, casual and resort to evening wear. For such a big day and varied styles, four different makeup looks were needed to cover the day

  • 87. Kylies team of experienced event artists and emerging artists swung into action from 11am with the first makeup look for swim - the summer girl look! A fresh and healthy feel was needed so a natural, very soft makeup was necessary. A finely applied mineral foundation was dusted on and minimal setting powder was used only on the T-zone. Extra highlighting was applied to the high points of the face and was key to the fresh look. Brows were only filled where needed and were just, gently brushed. Lips were natural, with only a smear of clear Lip-gloss. For the second look we went for a brown lip. Brown lips have made a big comeback this year so the models got to rock a 90s style mocha-chocolate lip. Eyes were soft and light, with a wash of a pearly white eyeshadow across the mobile lid and a dust of soft warm brown shadow across the eye socket to give definition. The skin was kept looking fresh and dewy.
  • 88. The third look, we built-up on our makeup from our previous look with a little bit of Glam. Adding a beautiful golden bronzed eyelid and aubergine-purple lip provided a fairly simple but striking change. Lastly, A different look for the final ‘Black show’ was not planned. Time only really allowed for a quick garment change and touch-ups however the models in their excitement sped through their change and with our own adrenaline still running high, a last minute decision was made and the models were given a glossy back eyelid and smudged black lipstick, blended in to their current lip. They quickly transformed into Glam - with a touch of gothic chic. Fashion event veteran, Leon Kyriacou with his equally excited all-star Hair team also pounced on the models hair to, ‘joosh it up’ for their finale. As the last model was getting the final touches the most perilous part of the backstage process began. Champagne erupted and corks suddenly started ricocheting off ceilings and walls. A cheer went up and fist-pumps, hugs and high fives were enthusiastically exchanged. The whole backstage team rejoiced in a job well done! Elements at Byron was a stunning venue and a perfect stylish fit for the festival. The crowds arrived and a magnificent fashion event was staged. With a further two years already inked in, a new wave of fashion truly is surging over Byron Bay. Writer and Photography: Kylie Eustace
