RESPONSIBILITIES and ARRANGEMENTS FOR HEALTH & SAFETY
MANAGEMENT
The Committee of the Friends’ group has overall responsibility for health and safety
matters related to the activities of the group, and will ensure that:
• Volunteers receive adequate and sufficient information, training and
supervision on health and safety matters as appropriate
• A risk assessment is undertaken for each aspect of the activities which the
Friends’ group undertakes eg work in the Cemeteries, guided walks etc.,
taking into account of risks to both volunteers and to members of the public
• Minor accidents are investigated and reported to the Committee and, where
appropriate, to the Council’s Bereavement Services
Members should:
• Take reasonable care of their own health and safety, including the wearing of
appropriate footwear and clothing when working in the Cemeteries
• Take advice from a responsible person (eg Bereavement Services officer)
when working in the Cemeteries
• Give general advice to members of the public regarding their safety on guided
walks
• Report any accident to the designated FoBLC member or, if appropriate, the
emergency services, at the earliest opportunity
