This letter serves to confirm that Eve Englefield has completed 10 weeks of volunteer service at
SANCCOB during the months of May/July 2011. Eve participated in SANCCOB’s International
Volunteer program and assisted SANCCOB’s Bird Rehabilitators with their daily task of rehabilitating
African penguins, Kelp and Hartlaub’s gulls, various Cormorants and Cape Gannets.
As a non-profit organisation, whose main focus is the rehabilitation of coastal birds on the Southern
African coastline, SANCCOB has a staff component of 11 people. With only 3 full-time Bird
Rehabilitators and a Veterinarian, volunteers truly become an extension of our staff for the duration
of their time at SANCCOB.
Eve completed the following modules of SANCCOB’s Volunteer Training Programme, and has
received certificates for her achievements.
Module 1: Introduction to Volunteering;
Module 2: Handling and Feeding of Seabirds;
Module 4: Intensive Care Unit
Eve mastered the basic skills required to rehabilitate oiled, ill, injured and abandoned seabirds and
has greatly assisted us in our daily task of saving them.
During her time with us, Eve observed, assisted in, and learned the following skills:
 Tubing, feeding and administering prescribed vitamins, antibiotics and anti -malaria
medications to a variety of seabirds of all ages;
 Applied the correct handling techniques at all times;
 Supervised bird pens;
 Supervised the Intensive Care Unit;
 Assisted in the admissions of injured or oiled birds;
 Assisted in wash bay by holding birds either for washing or rinsing;
 Assisted in reading PCV levels
 Eve also accompanied SANCCOB in the release of healthy birds returned to their natural
environment.
Eve has proven to be an absolute pleasure to work with. She is reliable, polite and always willing to
assist with any task assigned.
We are immensely grateful for the donation of her time and she will always be welcomed.
