- 1. NYFA Business IX: Portfolio
Fall 2013
Instructor Contact:
Erin Roby, erin.a.roby@gmail.com
Introduction:
Artists and designers use portfolios to demonstrate to potential employers not only what they can do (skills and
knowledge), but how they think and how they develop their ideas to create a final design (process). For our purposes,
we will define a portfolio as “a visual representation of interests, exploration, experimentation, development, and
final pieces.” 1
Course Overview & Assignments:
As stated in the previous course, my goal as your instructor is to not only give you the tools you need to develop your
NYFA portfolio, but also to demonstrate the importance of cultivating a strong pointofview and how to convey that
pointofview to potential employers. The objective of this course is utilize the content generated in the previous
course to create at least one section of your portfolio effectively. That section will serve as a guide for future portfolio
sections created independently as each of you move through the NYFA certificate program.
