The model concentrates on transforming from services & procedures, to formalized programs, to centers of excellence, while focusing on the four pillars of service line management: Quality/Outcomes; Service/Satisfaction; Volume/Market share Growth; and Cost Containment. Quality and outcomes are particularly stressed as the key to program differentiation and value. Positioning as a regional destination center for managed care and industry is also discussed. Presentation to cover: Learn about a model applicable to all service lines Learn how to transition from performing procedures to becoming a center of excellence Learn how to transition from volume to value Learn how to differentiate your centers of excellence Learn how to create dashboards to maximize quality Learn some marketing strategies for your service line Learn how to position yourself as a regional referral destination About the Speaker: Bill Munley is a 30-year veteran of the healthcare system and a recognized leader and strategist in Orthopedics, Service Line Development, and Rehabilitation. He currently serves as Vice President of Orthopaedics, General Surgery, and Professional Services at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, SC, where he has served for 27 years. He is responsible for all inpatient and outpatient Orthopedic, General Surgery, and Rehabilitation programs across three campuses. During his tenure there, he has served as a consultant to other healthcare systems, on editorial advisory boards of professional magazines, as a charter board member and officer of multiple state and local organizations, and has developed numerous programs in his specialty areas. Bill has also appeared as a guest speaker at multiple local, state, and national symposiums, presentations and webinars. Bill holds a BA in General Science from the University of Rochester and a MHSA from George Washington University.

Improving Care: More Method, Less Uncertainty, Impact summit 30 October 2013 Improving Care: More Method, Less Uncertainty – Impact Summit, the second full day event in the Measurement Masterclass series, took place at the Central Hall Westminster in London on 30 October. The event was opened by Professor Sir Bruce Keogh and NHS IQ’s own Professor Moira Livingston, and included contributions from experts from across England and a virtual appearance by Dr Bob Lloyd. This series for senior clinical leaders was developed to help increase the understanding of the principles of measurement for improvement. Designed to stimulate and challenge, it is supporting clinical leads in holding influential discussions with policy makers and data collectors. LWI recently contributed as a Plenary Speaker at the African Development Conference at Harvard University, Boston, during the Health Session. In our own opinion, the Governments of Africa can make affordable healthcare a reality for the people, by implementing the LWI-recommended SMWW Strategy. SMWW is the six month wellbeing window which usually results from a well run Community Health Outreach; this usually caters for 80-85% of basic healthcare needs of most communities and will confer general wellbeing for a 6-month period, at a cost which is less than 20% of the total healthcare cost for a defined population. The SMWW model of healthcare is Replicable, Affordable, and Scalable in all economies...it will help even developed economies to 'fill' their healthcare gaps especially since the healthcare challenge is a global challenge. It completes the continuum of care at the most basic and rudimentary level. It will help to attain equity and quality of healthcare for up to 80% of populations everywhere in Africa, and in fact the world as a whole...it is truly unprecedented! The Political will to implement this would be an essential key to unlock this tool among African Governments as it is low-cost, practical, pragmatic, impactful and rewarding. African Governments can thereafter concentrate on the 15-20% Healthcare spending on the population that really needs further healthcare, after successfully implementing the SMWW Model on 80-85% of its population.
