Nike Will Host A Basketball Tournament to Benefit YMCA After School Programs
Tournament Will Be Held At Toyota Center
(Houston, TX/July 3, 2014)— Nike will host a basketball tournament from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on
Saturday, July 12 at Toyota Center. The tournament will benefit YMCA after school programs in
the Houston Area and contestants will get tickets for a free pair of Nike shoes.
“We are glad to be the host of this tournament,” said Mark Stone, Nike President and
CEO. “The potential contributions that this tournament can bring to the after school programs
can help the YMCA tremendously in their effort to motivate children to be more active and
successful in their lives.”
The “Benefit for YMCA After School Programs” tournament will consist of 64
contestants playing one-on-one basketball, with the first person to score 100 points advancing to
the next round. The games will be played on one half of the court with two games happening at
the same time. The final two contestants will have the privilege of playing alongside either
Houston Rockets player James Harden or Dwight Howard in a two-on-two game against the
other contestant.
“When I first heard of the tournament and what organization it will benefit, I immediately
wanted to do it,” Harden said. “The chance to be a part of a good cause and give a lucky kid the

opportunity to have an NBA player as his teammate convinced me to do the tournament.”
“I am so excited to play in this tournament,” Howard said. “I can’t wait to play alongside
my new teammate and have the opportunity to play against Harden.”
The fee to enter the tournament is $240 and contestants will get tickets for a free pair of
Nike shoes, a Houston Rockets poster signed by James Harden and Dwight Howard, a chance to
take a picture with both players, and a free Houston Rockets duffel bag, which contains a
Rockets jersey of one of the players. The deadline to register is July 7 and people can register at
www.houstonrockets.com. Space is limited and registration will occur on a first-come, first-serve
basis.
