3.  Oil prices dipped on Thursday, with Brent edging away from the psychologically important $70 level after easing in the
previous session on data showing a surprise build in U.S. inventories. Brent futures eased 2 cents to $69.29 by 0100
GMT. On Wednesday, Brent dipped 6 cents, after touching $69.96, the highest since Nov. 12, when it last traded above
$70. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was down 14 cents, or 0.2 percent, at $62.34 a barrel.
 Gold's slow foxtrot at just under $1,300 could become an extended dance. Bullion and futures of the yellow metal
traded a touch lower on Wednesday after the slight rise of the previous day. That may be exhibiting what could be-
come a trend for a market reacting to daily headwinds from equities and the dollar, even as broader economic con-
cerns keep it anchored in the $1,200-to-$1,300 an ounce territory.
 Soybean growers in Argentina are playing a waiting game, wagering on better prices ahead as the U.S. and China inch
toward a trade deal and as nation’s currency keeps depreciating. Farmers on the Pampas arable belt have signed de-
layed-price contracts for almost three quarters of the 12.2 million metric tons they’ve sold to crushers and exporters so
far, according to government data. That compares with 60 percent at the same stage last year.
 President Donald Trump will meet on Thursday with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, who is in Washington for trade talks,
according to Trump's schedule released by the White House on Wednesday night. The meeting is scheduled to take
place at 4:30 p.m. EDT (2030 GMT) in the Oval Office, according to the schedule.
 Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Thursday the country must proceed with a scheduled sales tax hike in Oc-
tober to meet the cost of a rapidly ageing population. "Japan must proceed with fiscal reform," Abe told parliament.
"On the other hand, the government is ready to deploy fiscal spending flexibly as needed."
 Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said on Thursday the central bank will look carefully at the impact its massive
stimulus program is having on the country's regional banks. "Structural factors, such as a dwindling population, are
likely to weigh on regional banks' profits. We must be vigilant to the risk this could erode their capital base and have a
negative impact on financial intermediation," Kuroda told parliament.
