2. For my project I decided to look at optimal growing
conditions for plants and how to create them. I planted
lettuce seed in two different buckets and gave both
buckets different amounts of water, sunlight and different
types of soil. I chose this topic because I love gardening
and am interested in seeing what conditions grow plants
best.
3. • Both planters were equal in size and had an equal amount of seeds in them
• I used about three cups of water in planter A twice a day. For planter B I
used about one and a half cups of water and only once a day.
• planter A was placed in direct sunlight and received about 8 full hours of
sunlight. Planter B was placed in indirect sunlight where it received about 6
hours of sunlight
• The soil in planter A was mixed with a chemical fertilizer called miracle
grow and planter B used soil mixed with composted egg shells and fruit
scraps as a fertilizer
• I measured the plants every day for two weeks after they sprouted
6. Growth for each planter
• I found the average growth for the planters by
dividing the second measurement by the first.
I used the formula (𝑆2 − 𝑆1) ÷T1 –T2
S2 represents the last measurement S1 represents
the first measurement andT1 represents the day
that measurement S1 was taken andT2 represents
the day that the measurement S2 was taken
to represent the growth I used,
Growth Rate = Change in Height/Change inTime
Planter A = 6.2cm – 1.3cm÷ 14- 1 =
0.37cm per day
Planter B = 5.2 – 0.9 ÷ 14 – 1 =
0.33 cm per day
7. Conclusion
• I used the line graph and table to
analyze my data and determined that
Planter A had had optimal growing
conditions for the plants. It had a
higher growth rate per day compared
to Planter B.The table helped me find
the average growth and the line graph
helped me visualize the growth.
