With a population of approximately 2 million residents, King County is the most
populous county in Washington. With its rich natural resources and thriving city
of Seattle, King County is a great place to live and work. To servethe citizens and
businesses of this bustling area, the county government employs over 13,000
people at hundreds of regional sites in departments ranging frommarriage
licensing to animal control.
With so many employees, sites and services, King County has a lot to coordinate
to provide its residents with the efficient and effective servicethey desire.
However, its communications technology was not up to par, rendering the
governmentunable to meet these expectations. With no unified lines of
2. communication between departments, regional sites, and its residents, the King
County government suffered fromscores of inefficiencies and
miscommunications that not only costit precious money and time, but also
frustrated residents. There had to be a way for the county to communicate
seamlessly to better serveits population.
SnomTechnology’s phones, with their MicrosoftSkypefor Business compatibility,
were the solution. King County began testing and deployment in 2012, and has
already deployed 1,000 Snom720 UC edition phones with the help of Snom
distributor, Novus. As partof an early adopter program, the county recently
upgraded some of this technology to Skypefor Business to expand its
communication beyond its internal infrastructure. Itplans on purchasing Snom
D715 and D725 phones 100 units at a time, eventually deploying 10,000 phones
among all county departments and regional sites.
With Snom Active service, King County has the help of SnomTechnology experts
to quickly set up and integrate all of these new phones into their existing set-up.
Itcan also rely on Novus for technical support.
This new Snom technology has done wonders to unite all of King County
government’s communication pathways with each other and the general public.
Its departments have especially benefitted fromSnom’s shared line appearance,
intercom, multi-cast paging, and BToE features that connect employees’ phones
with their computers to conductvideo calls and join and manage a phone
conference.
The Snom units havealso helped King County increaseproductivity and drastically
cut costs. With their Skypefor Business compatibility, Snom phones help County
Employees communicate seamlessly with residents via Skype. This not only helps
employees engage more with residents and better meet their needs, but also
increases efficiency in some departments. For example, some County public
health clinicians are required to watch patients take their medicine at home each
day. Instead of driving all over to individual homes, clinicians can now watch
3. patients take medication over Skype, making them able to servemorepatients in
a given day while saving governmentmoney on travel expenses.
King County also plans to use the Skypefor Business featureto cut employee
recruiting costs by conducting interviews over Skypeinstead of flying remote
applicants to Washington.
By using SnomTechnology’s phones, King County has created a unified
communications systemthat not only increases internal collaboration and
resident satisfaction, but also increases productivity while cutting costs. State-of-
the-art and easy to use, Snom’s products helped a massive county government
drastically improve its services withoutblowing its budget.
