I. Introduction
About The Farm Stand
A summer produce stand where students from the Autism High
School’s Ready, Set, Work Program will learn skills to sell produce
from the Cincinnati Children’s Home garden to staff, parents, and
caregivers.
Purpose of This Manual
The following document was created as a resource for students who
are running the summer farm stand at the Children’s Home of
Cincinnati. This manual will be used as a reference for required
equipment during set-up, food safety, and operations to ensure all
students are comfortable with the farm stand process.

II. Goals
• To provide fresh produce from the garden to the staff,
parents, and caregivers at the Children’s Home of Cincinnati.
• To learn leadership and entrepreneurial skills through
working hands-on at the farm stand.

IV. Food Safety
1. Hand Washing
Wash hands for 20 seconds before and after
working with the produce at the farm stand.
2. Sickness
If you are not feeling well (sneezing, coughing,
running nose, etc.) talk to staff to see what job you
will be assigned that day.
3. Contamination
Tell staff if any of the produce or farm stand
equipment come into contact with blood. Staff will
dispose of the item and clean the area.

4. First Aid
If you get a cut or injured (stung by a bee, etc.)
tell staff immediately. If you have a cute or
wound, make sure it is covered or tell staff.

Wash farm stand tables when farm stand is
finished.
6. Washing the produce
Wash farm stand produce with the
cleaning brush before setting up the farm
stand.

V. Produce Identification
Games
Find the Vegetables
• Scavenger hunt to find the hidden vegetables.
• Name the vegetables that you find and place in basket.
Musical Pass the Vegetables
• Sit in a circle.
• Pass the vegetables around the circle (music will be
playing).
• When the music stops, you must name the vegetable in
your hands.
We will talk about the specific vegetables that we harvest and are
going to have at the farm stand every week before we sell them.
If you are every unsure what a vegetable is called, ask a
supervisor and they will tell you!

V. Operations
Farm Stand Set-Up
Put up large farm stand sign.
Set up transaction area.
Count money in moneybox and record.
Set produce up on the tables.
Set up produce signs

Transaction
• Ask them if they found everything they needed/do they
have any questions.
• Put a tally next to what they are purchasing on the
purchasing record.
• Heaviest items go in the bag 1st
.
• Hand them the bag of produce.

Return un-sold produce to the refrigerator containers on the
bottom shelf.

1. Put all produce in refrigerator.
2. Collect all produce signs.
3. Count money in moneybox and record.
4. Clean tables.
5. Fold up chairs.
6. Take down farm stand sign.
