2. REFUGE GROUP INITIATIVE I MISSION STATEMENT
3D Youth Ministry’s new Refuge group initiative will soon exist to
provide our students with a safe place for them to encounter the Lord through
the sharing of life, prayer, and God’s word. The main objective is to bring our
understanding of small group ministries back to the their original intent within
the church body of Christ. Therefore, this approach will model the format of
small group ministries found within the early church.
“Every day they
continued to
meet together
in the temple courts.
They broke bread in
their homes
and ate together
with glad and sincere
hearts,”
Acts 2.46
Meet together
At a host home
Eat together
A snack or meal provided
by hosts or the collective
group
Study God’s word together
Teaching material provided
by Kyle
Lesson led by facilitator
Pray together
As we trust the Lord to
guide us
3. REFUGE GROUP INITIATIVE I FACILITATOR POSITION
REFUGE FACILITATORS,
As mentioned, 3D Youth Ministries seeks to provide each student with a space
to discover the truth of God’s word and the impact of prayer. The facilitator plays
a very important role as they facilitate a time of Biblical teaching and
exploration. Each facilitator will be responsible for attending a handful of RG
leader meetings, reviewing the teaching materials (provided by Kyle) in advance,
maintaining a good relationship with hosts, and fostering a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ. In an ideal world, one facilitator will lead each RG with present
hosts, or two facilitators with absent hosts.
Simply put, the facilitator will be the main small group leader who guides RG
members through the timing and programming of meeting evenings. This
individual is also asked to attend Wednesday night youth group outside of RG
nights in an effort to build commonplace, and healthy relationship with the
members of their Refuge Group.
Side-Note: If you would like to host or facilitate, but do not believe that you
have the space to do so, we also welcome the idea of hosting RG at a coffee
shop or other recurring location.
4. REFUGE GROUP INITIATIVE I HOST POSITION
REFUGE HOSTS,
As mentioned, 3D Youth Ministries seeks to provide each student with a space
to build deeper community through the Refuge group initiative. The host plays a
very important role as they share their space and hopefully their input with the
students and leaders that attend. Each host has the capacity to offer different
things. Ideally, this person(s) is someone who can offer up their living room or
basement, someone who can provide a meal or snack, and someone who can
participate (not lead) discussion. We understand that every host does not have
the ability to provide all of these things, and that conversation will vary based
upon the individual(s). However, each host is required to maintain a good
relationship with the facilitator and foster a personal relationship with Christ
Jesus.
Please also keep in mind that we are all human. Sometimes it’s comforting to
remind your guests of this by allowing some papers to remain on your counter,
or your kids to interupt because these are realities of home life, and a little
messiness is welcomed as we are SO grateful for your service in ministry!
Side-Note: If you would like to host or facilitate, but do not believe that you
have the space to do so, we also welcome the idea of hosting RG at a coffee
shop or other recurring location.
